June 17, 20214 yr Hello Everyone I have just acquired a new 27inch 2560x1440 240 Htz full G sync monitor and intend using it with P3dv4.5 and maybe later MSFS 2020. My graphics card is a 1080ti 11GB card which i understand supports G Sync. As I am not as technical as many here, I should be grateful if it can be explained what I have to do to get G Sync running in P3dv 4.5 and what settings are best in the sim. I am currently running a 60 Htz 1080 p monitor and I use RTSS to set frames at 30 fps with unlimited fps set in P3d. It runs pretty well but my understanding is that G Sync operates from 1Htz up to the top Htz of your monitor and matches the fps output from the graphics card reducing as necessary the refresh rate of the monitor so they are in sync. I did not get a G sync compatible monitor as I understand this does not operate below around 48Htz for matching fps ie 48 fps which P3d is not always capable of producing when fully loaded. Any advice would be most welcome. Regards David Spackman Real World Pilot 😀
June 18, 20214 yr I guess you're using RTSS Scanline X/2. What I understand is that you need to do 4 things: 1) Connect your monitor to your GPU using a DP cable (at least DP 1.2). I understand HDMI does not work for G-sync. 2) Enable G-sync in your monitor. 3) Enable G-sync in Nvidia Control Panel. 4) Change your framelock method from Scanline X/2 to either RTSS Framerate limiter or even the internal limiter. With G-Sync, you won´t need Scanline anymore. Set whatever FPS value suits you better. In theory, G-sync should synchronize refresh rate to this value. I'm still stuck in step 1, DP cables are too expensive here. June 20, 20214 yr Author HI Luis Thank you for your very helpful reply I reply as follows 1. I have a DP cable supplied with the monitor its a 1.4 version. 2. I believe the Dell Alienware Monitor has G sync enable automatically but it is still in transit so cant check that yet. 3. I have read how to enable G sync in Nvidia Control Panel but thank you for pointing it out. 4. I have 30fps set in RTSS and am not using Scanline X/2. Would I still set this rate to say 30 in RTSS the monitor refresh rate max is 240 HTz or would I leave it unlimited in P3d and nothing set in RTSS. Once again thank you for you very kind help. regards David David Spackman Real World Pilot 😀
June 22, 20214 yr For your question #4, you're doing fine with setting 30 FPS as a limit with RTSS. I see 4 options: - Lock FPS at 30 in RTSS (as you do already). - Lock FPS in P3D, to whatever value suits you best (preferably 30 or above). - Lock FPS in NI/RTSS to whatever value suits you best. - No lock at all anywhere (but will your CPU and GPU handle this)? - A trick more suited to FPS games, that I saw in Blurbusters: set a FPS lock slightly below your max refresh rate (i.e., 234 Hz give or take). Sincerly, I doubt P3D will reach those high refresh rates without temperature concerns, so I guess the first 3 options should be better. I'd prefer the second option (internal lock), since G-sync would avoid the stutter issue that appears with internal lock+fixed refresh rate. June 23, 20214 yr If you intend to use gsync, then you should not lock the fps unless it's about to go over the maximum supported gsync range, 240hz in your case). Just make sure your gsync settings is set to fullscreen and windowed, as the fullscreen mode in P3D is actually a borderless window. Set unlimited fps in P3D and use either RTSS or Nvdida Control Panel to set maximum fps. This should be a bit below your monitors maximum gsync range. IF this causes bottlenecking, i.e. CPU or GPU hitting 100% usage, then lower the fps limit until you get smooth and stable frame times, which is key to a smooth experience. Use settings that keeps your minimum fps well above the minimum gsync range and you should be good.
July 2, 20214 yr Author Hello both Thanks again for your help on this matter. I have settled with a FPS at 55 in RTSS with unlimited FPS in P3d and G sync is working perfectly, very smooth and no stutters with a balance between CPU and GPU temperatures and usage. Once again really appreciate your kind help. Best Regards David David Spackman Real World Pilot 😀
