A question for the Beta Testers or anyone else.

Featured Replies

Before I contact LM to request it, I was wandering if someone in the know may be able to answer this question or comment on whether it would be possible or indeed useful for others.

I want to know if it would be possible to add a menu item to change between unlimited fps and a set value fps that has been set in the P3D display options. This could then be assigned to a button or key (similar to the delete shaders function) which would make it much easier to change between fixed and unlimited fps without having to go into the menus or leave the live graphics window open on the screen (which looks unrealistic) and have to use the mouse.

The reason I ask is that in my setup (maybe other users as well) I find that at different stages of flight it is smoother with unlimited or fixed fps and that if I use unlimited during descent my autogen disappears but it doesn't with fixed fps.

To pre-empt the question I do use FSPS but still find the problem exists and I just feel it would be a really useful function.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Cheers

Is it possible? Almost certainly. FPS limiting in-program is done by P3D code so it could be switched on and off. LM has added some 'Live Graphics' settings to 5.2 which were previously in the main settings dialog and which take effect 'immediately' in-sim; but those are still on a dialog box and not on menus or with shortcut keys.

You can have multiple saved graphics profiles with different settings but AFAIK the only way to change the profile is via the settings dialog which means 'stepping out' of the simulation and usually a re-load of all the terrain etc.

Would LM do what you're asking for? Unlikely, I think, unless there's a very strong push from the community to request it, and even then I imagine it would be low down the priority list, unfortunately.

(You still can't move from one parking position to another in the same airport without P3D re-loading all the terrain etc. It should be a simple matter of working out how far the new position is from the old and if not too far [ie less than the current radius of detailed scenery], just move the aircraft. Actually, it would be simple to create an add-on to do it. I may have a go if there isn't one already!)

If the Live Graphics dialogue box includes the VSync on/off option that could toggle between 30 or whatever you have your monitor synced to and truly unlimited.

But there’s no menu command that could be operated by a button.

Hey Neil, since you mentioned this, and others might be interested, I included this in Ideal Flight Professional and Ideal Flight 10 Special Edition (Flight 1) with other Accessibility Assistance functions for Prepar3D and FSX. Mainly it has been included for use by the many blind users of the sim, although the accessibility and assistance functions provided by Ideal Flight can be quite handy for others. It obtains the parking locations and headings from the scenery (whether stock or addon) and determines which parking locations are free from other traffic and lists those in a menu along with runway start locations and hold shorts. Selecting from the list, the aircraft is warped right into those locations without any reloading. Accessibility and Assistance functions are a work in progress with help and ideas supported by several blind pilots.

Actually, GSX currently does this quite nicely, and to the GSX customized position on the spot if one exists.

Do you know, I never even thought of 'just warp me there'. Doh! Why haven't I been using that all this time?

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it is not something many people think is useful so clearly won't be implemented by LM.

Ray, I have tried using your suggestion before, but then you loose the benefits of VSync i.e tearing and more stutters.

C'est la vie.
