USB WiFi adapter pausing every 60 secs

Recommended Posts

My newly acquired USB WiFi adapter pauses for 4000 ms every minute.  Exactly 4 sec.

I can run Zoom on a laptop or a tablet, using the same hub without problems, so it is specific to my Win 10 PC.

In the procmon traces, I can see a definite 4000 ms window every 60 seconds.
Starting with:
Date & Time:   2021-06-13 9:13:38 AM
Event Class:   File System
Operation:   DeviceIoControl
Result:   NO MORE MATCHES
Path:   \Device\Mup
TID:   11552
Duration:   0.0000123
Control:   0x1403a4 (Device:0x14 Function:233 Method: 0)

And ending with:
Date & Time:   2021-06-13 9:13:42 AM
Event Class:   File System
Operation:   DeviceIoControl
Result:   NO MORE MATCHES
Path:   \Device\Mup
TID:   11552
Duration:   0.0000226
Control:   0x1403a4 (Device:0x14 Function:233 Method: 0)

There is an exact timing sequence here... 4 sec - every 60 sec
Wonder what is triggering this..

I have not been able to find any other mentions of this, except for one:

The previous poster also had a Telus WiFi router, as do I...

What are the chances..

Has anyone ever run across something similar?  I am stumped.

Yap, have Telus as well. The only remedy is do go direct from the modem to the PC with an ethernet cable. This is at least my experience. Maybe worth a try, if possible.

There is something in the TCP protocol that is messing about the wifi stableness, if that is a word. I am no network expert by any means....

Hope you can find a fix.

Funny you should say that. 😄

Bert. Have you located and checked that USB device in Control Panel, Device Manager, to make sure it is not under the influence of Windows Advanced Power Management?

Bert,

I had a similar issue and I would check under device mgr the adapter power management not to be turned off to save power.

That would make perfect sense to me... and I have run down every device (wifi, usb, etc) and turned it off... but no fix unfortunately.

Interesting... Telus seems to be a common ingredient in this issue 😉

You are correct, it works OK with a cable, but we are in separate rooms and that would involve drilling holes in the floor..

The previous Telus DSL modem did not have this problem, but their fibre modem has introduced this as best I can tell.

My next step is to try an Asus PCI Wifi card (Pce-AC58BT) ... will report back!

Did you Google the error? It seems like it's trying to connect to an invalid network share.

Cheers!
