Constantly getting CTDS in MSFS...

Featured Replies

So i´ve noticed that with my sim It´s gotten to the point where it´s unplayable.I get ctds regardless of what im doing, be it cruising or descending, loading it up,etc.

The event viewer gives me a 0xc00005 error.

My specs are the following:

RX5600XT, R7 3700X, 16 Gigs DDR4 RAM single channel @3200mhz

Any help is appreciated

I'm sorry to hear that. I can relate to you since I have experienced similar problems. Many people will tell you that it is your hardware, which might be the cause, but it could be a very delicate combination of factors.

When did these CTD's start to occur? Can you recognise a pattern (at specific locations, after a certain ammount of time etc?
Does it happen with every aircraft, or just a single one?

Off course, always start troubleshooting by removing all addons in the community folder. If you have marketplace addons, you might even have to remove these as well
There are lots of possible causes, the error message is a generic one, meaning it is quite useless in determining the exact cause. Memory issues, USB devices, your xbox profile, overclocking might all be related to the cause.

Flightsim rig:
CPU: AMD 5900x  | Mobo: MSI X570 MEG Unify | RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo | GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3090 | Storage: M.2 (2 & 4 TB) | PSU: Corsair RM850x | Case: Fractal Define 7 XL
Display: Acer Predator x34 3440x1440 | Speakers: Logitech Z906
Controllers: Fulcrum One Yoke | MFG Crosswind v2 pedals | Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant |Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant | Stream Deck XL & Plus | TrackIR 5 Tobii eye tracking

I have very rarely CTDs, but nearly all those I had since alpha times were caused by Addons. I use the Addon Linker and until now I've been always able to track down the culprit. Usually it's a combination of disabling the recently added addons, plus sometimes a nesting procedure where you deactivate half of the sceneries in the region, then the other half, next the first half of the disturbing half and so on.

Given startup times of the sim this can well take a couple of hours, but I was always successful in the end.

Of course there may other causes, hardware-related, faulty updates and so on.

Kind regards, Michael

CTD's are not limited to a specific flight simulator.  AVSIM has a CTD specific forum that may help: Crash To Desktop (CTD) Forum - The AVSIM Community

I had CTDs for months. Finally got it fixed. It was my piece of  Word Not allowed RX 5600 XT GPU. I had it replaced with a Nvidia GPU, and the CTDs instantly stopped.

Welcome to Avsim Frequent Aviator

When one suffers from a CTD it may come from a bug in the sim but it may very well come from the user. Here is a list of things to do, compiled from many posts on the topic. There is no priority order in the list, just use your common sense :

- Check the error message in the Windows Event Log. It is generally unusable to detect the cause but sometimes it does give a clue😁

- Your computer

- Be sure that you do not demand too much from your hardware : MFS is well optimized for lower-end machines but a 10 year-old computer will not cope with all the goodies that it can offer. Photogrammetry, for instance, has been known to CTD the sim on a weak machine. Reduce your settings and check whether the CTD are still plaguing you.

- check that you have enough room on your disk

- check that an USB or a jack connection is not loose (headset, controllers etc). I suffered a CTD from one.

- Be aware that overclocking your CPU and GPU can be a cause of crash so disable the overclocking to check.

Your sim

- Empty or disable the Community folder. Chances are that an add-on is non compatible with the last  upgrade and if the problem is solved reintroduce them one buy one and check.

- Disable all add-ons which are in the Official folder for the same reason and if the problem is solved reintroduce them one buy one and check.

- Flush your rolling cache and manual cache. They may contain a piece of scenery incompatible with the last upgrade.

PS this is a copy of a post I did several weeks ago for another fellow simmer
