P3DV5.2 - CPU VS GPU USAGE DOESN´T WORKING PROPERLY

Featured Replies

Hi guys, hope you are all well and healthy. I will explain my situation.

I recently purchased p3d version 5.2, rex, orbx base pack, chaseplane, open mesh south america, FSLABS 320, gsx and gsx level 2 and I am encountering a problem that I effectively can not solve after several tests performed. I have all the major simulators on the market today and only with the prepar I am having the problem that I will describe now. From the simulator without any add-on included I have noticed that p3d is using 80-100% CPU and 5-13% GPU. With the add-on installed the exact same thing happens leading to the simulator having many stutterings, crashes in moving the cameras etc.

Tests performed: without add-on (aircraft, scenery, default meteorology) and with add-ons (fslabsm. I've disabled all functions and tested raising each function separately, up to the maximum. I deleted shaders, prepar.cfg, disabled HT, enabled HT. I tested with OVERCLOCK only in the processor and without overclock. G-SYNC on and off. Locked FPS both in the simulator, as the panel of nvidia. Anyway in all settings happens the same behavior of the CPU / GPU. The problem here is not the use of CPU / GPU only. It is simply the absurdly high CPU USE reaching 100% (that is when the stutters start) while the GPU is in 5%. In the task manager this is happening and I've noted it in GPU-Z and CPU-Z. I've observed the same usages there as well. I already disabled game mode in windows, already enabled, already tested "disable full screen performance". In the prepar as I said earlier already deactivated everything I could and activated everything again. In the nvidia panel the same thing. I've done test with g-force experience and with the same uninstalled. all temperatures are absolutely within the normal range as they are new hardware. I did the test without anything modified and with modifications and I have the same behavior. In no other simulator or games I have this problem.

Kindly note that it is a high-end computer and there is absolutely no bottlenecks presented in any other games or simulators that I have been able to check. On the contrary they run well above 60 FPS and with fluidity without stutters.
I have checked that there are more people with this same problem and none of the attempts I have read and tested have worked.
Kindly someone on forum if they can help me I would appreciate. I bought it just for training and can not use it.

cheers,

Eric

Monitor and resolution?

If you're trying to run P3D at 60Hz, the main thread normally running on CPU core 0 will be pegged at 100%.  I run a 10-core 10900K at 5.2 GHz and a 3090 and my system can't get anywhere near holding 60 fps unless perhaps I'm running a default GA airplane over default scenery.

If your monitor is capable of running at 30Hz, and most 4K TVs are, I'd recommend you try setting the refresh rate to 30 Hz in the nVidia Control Panel, and set VSync and triple buffering on in P3D.  This will dramatically reduce the CPU load, as the sim will be locked to the 30 fps hardware refresh rate and not waste CPU capacity on generating lookhead frames in excess of that.  If your monitor can't accept a 30 Hz signal, there are utlities like RTSS that can limit the frames (again to 30fps) via a different mechanism using the driver.  Lots already written in the forums about that.

Hello w6kd. My monitor is Gigabyte Aorus LED Gamer Monitor, 27', QHD, IPS, HDMI, Display Port, 165Hz, 1ms, FI27Q-SA. I tried to reduce for 60hz. My monitor has: 60/120/144/165. Even locking fps on 30 I have many problems with stutter. My nonitor has g-sync. I tried flying without g-sync. I tried with v-sync and I have the same problem. The only problem is with p3dv5.2. I have no problem with another simulator. I know that each simulator has its own characteristics. But a simulator using 100% cpu and 3% is really very strange. Thanks for you help. Regards

With a 3090 GPU, did you set all the GPU relevent settings like Shadows, Reflections, Tesselation, Texture Resolution, AA & TF to ULTRA? Also check Use High Terrain Resolutions is active. This should stress your GPU quite a bit more. On the other side, reducing AI Traffic settings and Autogen Draw Distance will relieve some overhead for the CPU. With settings like this, I get a more balanced CPU/GPU usage. Off course, when approaching with a studio level airliner to a busy add-on airport, CPU will always be pegged at 100%. And as Bob said, aiming for 30 fps is always a good decision.

P3D is still very CPU bound and maybe the 10700K/3090 combination is not the most perfect one. You can also try to overclock your CPU to 4.5-4.8 GHz..

What about your crash...?

I have a config who a really not so different as your's. I just tell you one thing. IS your memory are listed in the Asus qvl ?

Had several problem with same motherboard and gskill 3600 memory
