July 27, 20214 yr Bit of an odd request, this, but does anyone know of an easy (read: quick) way to find a particular historical date when the weather in a given region was within certain parameters? When I fly I tend to fly in historical time rather than live time, because I usually sim at night or weekends, but mostly fly with the sim set to daytime hours during the week. So for weather with ASP3D etc I like to have historical weather that is realistic and changes, rather than setting a global weather theme. But sometimes I want particular weather conditions - for example, right now I'm looking for a day in the recent past where it was clear across most of Western Europe with maybe just a little cloud and high visibility (or as much as EA currently allows, sigh). I'm sure there were some in the recent good weather spell, but without literally going back day by day and viewing weather charts, I can't easily find it. Is there a site or other resource anywhere that'll let you search historical weather based on conditions? Temporary sim: 9700K @ 5GHz, 2TB NVMe SSD, RTX 3080Ti, MSFS + SPAD.NeXT
July 28, 20214 yr Author Well, judging by the views and no replies, I guess the answer is no 🙂. Which is what I suspected. Time to do some research into weather data... Mods: feel free to delete this topic. I don't think it adds anything to the forum if there's nothing to talk about. July 28, 20214 yr Moderator Neil, the closest I can suggest is the search facility in Active Sky. You can search for precipitation type and intensity and other variables. Downside is it's only live data. As for historical I can only suggest keeping an eye on the various news reports for inclement weather around the world and note the location and weather type. July 28, 20214 yr You could try https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/ and search for a city/town then use the past weather option to look back over the last couple of weeks to see if it was what you wanted

I think Neil's question was based not on location, but initially specifying a set of weather conditions and then having a list of location results that specify the date/time in which those weather conditions were observed. As Ray said, the closet is ASP3D search engine but it only acts on current, live weather data but it does not look back in history. There does not seem to be an abundance of weather apps that can actually do what Neil is asking. I do find that quite surprising and a good observation by Neil. July 28, 20214 yr Author So, I managed to get what I wanted (sort-of). Meteoblue offers historical charts of cloud, sunshine and precipitation. I picked likely looking dates based on my origin point, plugged them into ActiveSky, and looked at the map until I got a situation I liked the look of. But it's a slow manual process. @787flyer my original ask was to find dates when the weather in an area was within certain parameters. So I wanted to find a day and time when it was basically clear skies in W. Europe during the times I wanted to fly in, because in this case I was recording the flight and wanted to do sightseeing. I could always just set clear skies throughout as a global theme, but that's cheating 🙂 Temporary sim: 9700K @ 5GHz, 2TB NVMe SSD, RTX 3080Ti, MSFS + SPAD.NeXT
July 28, 20214 yr Moderator @neilhewitt, if you want records for EGCC my weather station is 3 miles from the airport. Using the Data Summary option you can easily find dates with high temps, heavy rainfall or high / low pressure. http://www.cheadlehulmeweather.co.uk/betel_datasummary.php Have fun at Manchester where it’s currently raining with lightning and thunder. 😁 Ray (Cheshire, England). July 28, 20214 yr What I use for VFR: already mentioned above: https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/ to search for an appropriate month (yesterday/past weather -> select month -> somewhat below "show weather for:" to select a specific day of the month Second source https://www.wunderground.com/ "Search Locations": takes ICAO airport code ! Select tab "HISTORY" and enter a specific day derived from timeanddate. in the lower part "Daily observations" https://www.windfinder.com : nice map with clickable locations, but not all have history data and only the last week available
