August 3, 20214 yr I've read a number of posts recently saying the sim is quicker to load since the most recent update ~ but why wait at all? If, after shutting down your aircraft (..or even pausing mid-flight) you just press the 'Windows' symbol on your keyboard and then put your computer to sleep, you can continue in an instant at any time afterwards from exactly where you left-off. Just reawaken the computer, and go! I've been doing this for a while now and - having monitored my Smart meter - I've discovered it's costing me under 3p in electricity to leave it sleeping overnight. I've been following the UK coast line in my Just Flight Warrior, and landing one day / tying-down / departing the next day @ airports along the route! So, back to my original question.. Why wait for FS2020 to load? Steve
August 3, 20214 yr If this works for you it's a great way to avoid those long loading times. It is also a way to bypass forced updates although your sim might then become incompatible with changes made on the servers. Hibernate might save more energy but some games don't like it. I use my computer for other things as well so it is no option for me. On the other hand, I often am busy preparing the flight while MSFS is starting up, like selecting a flight in Neofly, making up a flightplan or catching up on any news etc. Flightsim rig: CPU: AMD 5900x | Mobo: MSI X570 MEG Unify | RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo | GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3090 | Storage: M.2 (2 & 4 TB) | PSU: Corsair RM850x | Case: Fractal Define 7 XL Display: Acer Predator x34 3440x1440 | Speakers: Logitech Z906 Controllers: Fulcrum One Yoke | MFG Crosswind v2 pedals | Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant |Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant | Stream Deck XL & Plus | TrackIR 5 Tobii eye tracking

I can still do everything I need to do (..emails, Google, eBay, printing etc) while FS2020 is loaded and waiting unobtrusively in the background.

It's using GPU power, not as much as in-flight, but still the GPU gets constantly used due to the 3D stuff in the menu and the plane background in the hangar. For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

August 3, 20214 yr Doing this can cause issues, especially on laptops and also if some are routing their HDMI through receivers. Sometimes the image will either come back in the wrong res or just not at all and you have to reboot anyhow. It's worth a shot I suppose, I've done it a few times but I prefer a FRESH load of the game as often as not too inconvenient. AMD 5800x | Nvidia 3080 (12gb) | 64gb ram
August 3, 20214 yr Author I've read that doing this this can extend the life of flash drives (..among other things), because they're not then constantly being rewritten. I have FS2020 on a (smallish) flash drive, and until now it's working well for me. The GPU may well be in use the whole time too, but only lightly. I'm using a vanilla Nvidia 1080, but with three Apps. (..one of them being FS2020) and 62 processes presently running it's only 44% 'in use' @ a temp. of 68deg.
