Air Nostrum ATR 72 in Denmark...

Featured Replies

Well...where is Valencia (Spain) and where is Billund (Denmark)...(yes, far across, at two corners of Europe). Nonetheless, allow me to put them together, here, in this post, using the magic of our hobby...🙂...

Iberia (airline), the flag carrier of Spain, is well known in our SIM (and also to the aviation enthusiasts). Founded in 1927, it's among the oldest airlines in Europe and the world. One cannot but be impressed by the who's who range of aircraft that the airline has utilized, over the past ~95 years, (see Wiki for Fleet), such as Boeing (727, 737, 747 (-100/-200/-300/400), 757, 767), L-1049, L-1011, and Douglas DC (-1/-2/-3/-4/-8/-9/-10) etc.. In late years, their fleet has been exclusively based on Airbus. They surely know Airbus e.g. having used (A300, see my previous post for this plane, plus, A319, A320 & neo, A321 & neo, A330, A340, A350...)...

Now, when a such an old airline changes its (time-honored) livery, the diehard lovers of the old paint (a few, right here, among us, yours truly included...), get a mixed feeling (if not one of disappointment...recall e.g. when Lufthansa changed its historic livery...🙂...?). Anyway, we easily recall the characteristic Iberia livery...with its red and yellow cheatlines, and, of course, the unmistakable ‘B’ crown logo on the tail. When Iberia introduced a new livery, several years ago (after Iberia and BA merged into a single company, while still operating under their respective brands), the cheatlines are now gone, the iconic Spanish Crown is gone too. But, as I've said, myself, being, bit of a fan of the old Iberia colors, I stick, and fly, in this post, with the old...at my virtual pilot's discretion...

I wished to fly, today, the ATR 72, in the color of (the special 1,000th unit) Air Nostrum, which is a Regional franchise of Iberia, operating out of Valencia, Spain. Air Nostrum flies only the 72-600, but, this Carenado is actually a 72-500. As pax, I've flown, several times on the ATR...and, recall smooth flights and smooth landings...!

Next, a bit about my locale....I had acquired, in the past, a couple of sceneries from SIMNORD (via SimMarket), and was impressed by their work (btw, they specialize in Denmark sceneries, a bit off-the-track in my virtual world, but suits me well...)...so, today, from the SALE, I picked up a couple of more of theirs...one of which is for Billund Airport (EKBI). The country of Denmark has a peculiar geography of (isolated) landmasses. How about this fact, "The size of (Denmark's) land area cannot be stated exactly since the ocean constantly erodes and adds material to the coastline, and because of human land reclamation projects (to counter erosion)..." The largest chunk (mainland) of its landmass is the peninsula of Jutland, on which Billund is situated...(btw, this town is the original home of Lego and Legoland...🙂..)...

Into my ATR a/c [VC], here, I've installed the RXP GTN750, via the Carenado provided (easy 1-click) tool (see [VC] images), and, then, I've tested the (EKBI) ILS DME Rwy 27 Approach, see GTN shots, (also, included a few Airport pictures, below). Please also note that, pre-flight, I've prepped, by flying the full approach (BEVRA -> LOKSA -> ELRIT -> RW27), purely using the Garmin Trainer (see the first 2 screenshots)...after all, if you're not a Pro, never leave home, to tackle a virtual approach,...🙂..., without practicing it first, on such a Self-Trainer...(seriously, nothing like being familiar with your DEST, in advance)...!

Thanks for viewing...! Good flying...!
