August 14, 20214 yr Just updated to 5.2 HF1 and now have multiple performance issues. Upgraded Client first, then Content. Deleted HDSL Shaders Folder and .cfg file before running. System has changed from one that was stable and had good performance to one that is unusable. For example, on a default aircraft with no weather I get 40-60FPS until touchdown when it drops to 1-4 FPS. On closing sim get Multiple Content issues. Reloading with PMDG, cockpit is black and no gauges. Multiple Content issues, most referring to Simlink problem. Thread 0 on my CPU is running at 100% - My NVidia RTX2080Super 8GB is only using 2.2 -2.5 GB. Think I must have corrupted something and a clean re-install might be the best way to go. Never done this before and would much appreciate some advice. I am planning to:- Uninstall Active Sky P3D Uninstall PMDG 737NXGu Uninstall P3D V5 P3D is installed direct into the C:\ drive and so all other add ons such as Orbx, Honeycomb, FLAi etc. are installed out of the sim. Would I benefit by using an uninstalling program such REVO to make sure all registry entries are uninstalled ? Would then re-install P3D. Check all is working, then re-install ActiveSkyP3 and PMDG 737NXGu What do you think? Would this work ? Intel i9 9900K 3.6Ghz - 5.-Ghz RTX 2080 Super 8GB DDR6 32GB DDR4 2400 RoyH
August 14, 20214 yr I sort of think you might have deleted the wrong shaders folder since you mentioned HDSL shaders folder. the correct shaders folder is located in users\username\appdata\local\Lockeheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\Shaders If you deleted the wrong one, just re-install Content that will replace the shader folder in the main install folder. In any case there is no need to un-install Active sky, it will recognize what the problem is when you launch AS and offer the remedy. Worst case is what you should have done in the 1st place. Un install P3D 5 and un-register it. Install the whole ball of wax with the setup file. Orbx Central will take care of your orbx stuff and if your PMDG isn't working right just run the installer again (install in same place). I know from experience that upgrading can be a bit un-nerving, but it shouldn't be now because things are simpler than several versions ago Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz (8 cores) Hyper on, Evga RTX 3060 12 Gig, 32 GB ram, Windows 11, P3D v6, and MSFS 2020 and a couple of SSD's
August 14, 20214 yr While LM recommend doing a client update only, it does come with risk such as what you're experiencing, which is why I, personally, always go for a full reinstall. It's not necessary to uninstall Active Sky since it's an entirely independent program. It also usually isn't necessary to uninstall any addon installed in the main sim, as the P3D uninstaller only removes its own files, meaning it doesn't touch 3rd party files or sim files that have been modified. If you fully uninstall and then reinstall P3D into the same directory it was in before, your addons inside the P3D main folder will still be there and ready to be used. You don't need to touch them. Your P3D settings like controls will also be retained. The only thing you should definitely do after a full uninstall is delete all shader related files and folders if they have not been removed and delete your Prepar3D.cfg file to let it rebuild during the next full install. In short, completely uninstall P3D (without any 3rd party uninstalling software), delete the shader stuff and Prepar3D.cfg, then install the complete P3D package into the directory it was in before. After that apply shader mods (if you use any) and, for Orbx, go into Orbx Direct and click verify for any texture addons such as FTX Global, if you have them.
