Does the Logitech Radio Panel still require a driver?

Featured Replies

I have heard it both ways, that people are still needing the driver but that others are uninstalling it.

I have a Logitech Radio Panel arriving tomorrow and I wanted to get the informed consensus after SU5 and the latest hotfixes.

Is that driver from the Logitech website still a requirement?

My thanks in advance to anyone who cares to take a run at it.

You more or less have two choices,    The "Microsoft Flight Simulator Plug-in" from Logitech,  or "Spad.Next".

Spad.next can sometimes be the more reliable of the two options,  and it's customizable as well.  It functions without any Logitech software or drivers.

Many people recommended Spad,  but I never switched to it until the Logitech plugin began giving me all kinds of reliability problems in Windows 11.

I got tired of messing with it all,  and just went with spad.   Spad also allows you to do things like remap the logitech panel's trim wheel,  or the flaps switch.

Spad:Next is a valuable tool but does come with a learning curve.  Hopefully for the Radio Panel there is or are profiles already constructed that others will share.

You do need some sort of plugin.  The trick is choosing the one that works best for you.

I would recommend starting with the Logitech Microsoft Flight Simulator Plug-in - its free and requires no setup.
If you don't like it - just uninstall.

I would also recommend downloading the Flight Panels Test Software - comes in 32 or 64 bit - so pick the right version.

The biggest headache you will encounter is disabling Windows default USB device power saving settings.
Your panel may be working fine, but Windows has decided to shut it down - you can test if this is the case by using the Panel Test Software.

(If you own spad.neXt or Lorby-Si Axis&Ohms - both have a tool to disable power saving - otherwise Google is your friend)

Note that if MSFS crashes on you, it will not stop the Logitech service. It needs to be stopped via task mananger or you will get a Logitech warning message when you try to restart MSFS.

I own both spad.neXt and AAO - but find the Logitech driver to be the most reliable.
