Huge FPS drops with Volumetric Clouds off

Featured Replies

I am using asp3d+envtex+envshade with EA on and volumetric Clouds off, when there are more clouds, fps drops to 15-20,but with volumetric Clouds on,fps immediately increased to more than 40. I remember that in the last version of P3D, the fps with Volumetric Clouds on is lower than off. This version is really weird.

Very strange as it should be opposite, volumetric clouds especially on higher setting are frame eaters.

I use legacy clouds from REX and have smooth sky cruising, even my computer is mid range one.

Uninstall v5 Client and Content, then install both. That should give you fresh default shaders, sky and cloud textures. If you see low fps again, then it's not connected to P3D due to vanilla state of the shaders and textures.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

It has to do with the draw distance in both options. Vol clouds Low will have great performance because the draw distance is very short. Medium increases the draw distance and drops fps and successively with high and ultra. If you use vol clouds Low and then switch to vol clouds OFF and your CDD in AS is (eg.: 150 NM), then you'll have a huge fps drop too. The unfortunate thing here is that you can't have Vol Clouds on Low and get a decent CDD.
