Bush Flights Question

Featured Replies

"You can follow the flightplan directly from your PFD."

"Since the flights are organized according to the Bush Trips scheme, the route is not displayed on the MFD."

What is a PFD and what is a MFD ?

Where can I follow the flightplan ?

They are both glass screens.

The PFD (Primary Flight Display) replaces the traditional "6 pack" of steam gauge flight instruments and displays altitude airspeed, attitude etc etc .  Some aircraft will have two, one for the pilot and a second in front of the co-pilot.

The MFD (Multi Function Display) is the one that has things like Engine Temperatures, Oil Pressure, Engine RPM displayed.  It usually sits in the middle of the aircraft between pilot and co-pilot.  Typically a large aircraft will have three main displays, just the one MFD in the middle with two PFDs, one each side, for pilot and co-pilot.

Either of them (or both or all three)  can also display a moving map with your location and flight plan displayed, or sometimes a 3D forward looking terrain view.

Naturally if your flying something like a Spitfire you are likely to have none of the above. In that case on PC just hit the "V" key and bring up the VFR map to see the flight plan.

PFD = Primary Flight Display

MFD = Multi Function Display
