The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

I've made a couple of donations over the years and I just don't understand all the "donate to be ad free" stuff.

We're grasping at straws to get rid of the banner ads at the bottom of the screen that encroach on the text and pictures of the messages and replies.  I don't think anyone is complaining about the sidebar ads since they don't interfere with anything.  Although speaking for myself I am against the explosion of advertising that has developed in all forms of media and forced their way into our daily lives over the past decade.

I am. The issue with ads is that it allows third- and fourth-party code to get loaded into the page (albeit in a limited sandbox) that AVSIM has no control or knowledge over. It's a security risk, and even more so since I don't feel like the site admins have a good understanding of the control of ad placements or positions.

It also opens things up to the notion that by serving an advertisement, AVSIM is implicitly endorsing the content. There were more than a few times last year where if I had taken that view I would have never returned here.

Do advertisers put ads on a website that belongs to someone else without permission?  Or does AVSIM allow them to put up commercials in return for payment?

Just to keep it straight....AVSIM makes money when you "click" on the ads.  Keep in mind that you see ads that parallel your Google searching.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!
