Feathering the Prop

Featured Replies

I am looking for some help with this after trying the Carenado forum (here) and Carenado themselves with no result.  I got an invitation to comment on how Carenado did with my ticket but nothing else!  Well, not yet.

I have their Caravan EX and I am trying to get the prop to feather.   I have the throttle set to give reverse thrust (It moves all the way back beyond the detente and even moves the a/c backwards on the ground) but the prop control will not move all the way back.  An entry in the aircraft.cfg file makes think it should (feather=1) but I can't get it to do that.

Can anyone help?  I'm using FSX SE and FSUIPC4.

Don't have the aircraft, but would prop feather be the throttle for that engine at "Idle" and the prop lever maybe more toward mid-range rather than in the prop-reverse position?

Thanks Charlie,

I get my info from no other source than the POM and there it explains that the the throttle moves back through the beta range and then engages with the pitch to set a reverse pitch for reverse thrust.  So it doesn't seem that way.  The aircraft.cfg file refers as I mentioned to feather=1 and also a minimum torque setting of 400 ft lbs which suggests that Carabeo have designed it with feathering a possibility.  I've tried all sorts of things to get it to work but nothing as yet that gets what I want.

Thanks for your interest.

Do the keyboard commands not achieve what you want?

Propeller (low RPM)  CTRL+F1
Propeller (decrease RPM)  CTRL+F2
Propeller (increase RPM)  CTRL+F3
Propeller (high RPM)  CTRL+F4

Thanks Very Bumpy,

I just tried that - I hadn't before - but although the prop lever goes back to the detente it goes no further.

I have now heard from Carenado who can't replicate the problem and have offered a refund which I may well accept.

I bought the twin version of the Caravan (same developer) and that works well so I'll play with that.

Thanks though for your suggestion.  All the best.
