v5.2 FPS Loss/erratic at night built up areas

Featured Replies

Hi all, anyone have experience of poor FPS at night and solutions? I have tried everything from removing all shadows, LOD reduction, clean .cfg file in case it was a tweak issue  (I had modified light points to 900 but that doesn't seem to be the issue), but I still get highly erratic 20-30 at night in cities/large airports versus smooth 40-60 in daytime.  I have i7-9700K OC 5GHz, 4K monitor RTX 3080Ti, 32gb RAM, everything on NVMe drive. Running FSLABS, ORBX pretty much everything. Any clues appreciated!

Long time ago i did brilliant move - deactivated fps counter,

Coming to ur question, for me it looks like u have unlimited fps, i have locked mine at 30 ( NVIDIA Control Panel ) and it is rock solid ( day or night ) on computer that is weaker than yours.

Yeah I hear you, I don’t normally have the counter on but it’s badly stuttery. I don’t think locking it at 30 will help if it’s 18-25.

I’m sure it’s a setting or tweak I have missed.

I have no any tweaks apart of cores management via Process Lasso.

If u have stutters then it is pure indication that ur GPU is overloaded.

Reduce ur settings and try to find sweet spot for ur system.

Unlimited fps is a source of instability and fps fluctuation.

Are you using dynamic lighting *and* SSAA? That tends to kill performance.

I run 8x MSAA with DL at night.

Not at all if you can set 25 ,29 or 30hz on your monitor/tv and Vsync on. Smooth as hell

No just MSAA 8x and I even tried turning that off.

Have a look with the GPU load via a monitor like Nvidia inspector (sensor monitoring app)

Have you tried setting all shadows to off (cloud, terrain etc) and reflection ?

If anyone is interested I seem to have fixed this by following advice from a PMDG forum related to night lighting which involves deleting shaders folder, plus deleting shadersHLSL folder, then re-installing (or repairing as I didn’t actually uninstall it) 5.2 Client.
