MSFS 2020 Auto FPS App v0.4.2
Can I ask the group for advice on an annoying and somewhat intermittent issue I have with main thread spikes and FPS drops in the cruise? I use the AutoFPS app and it’s fantastic, payware airports and Fenix/PMDG totally smooth and climb out is amazing, I have the TLOD limited to 400 and it hits it quickly after take off and maintains very consistent smooth 40 FPS/80 with FG even in cloud all the way up past FL300. But then a weird thing starts higher up in cruise where lag spikes start, changing camera views make it spike/stutter really badly and even in steady view every few seconds there’s a 10-20 FPS drop. It gets better when I descend below FL300 and back to solid “green” on the MSFS FPS counter. Can anyone explain why performance would suffer at higher altitude? Drawing more scenery since more is visible higher up? Or some other system issue? I ran several tests yesterday (LOWW-EDDK routing to keep it consistent) using Fenix and PMDG and eliminating all other add-ons (FSUIPC, RealTurb, GSX, etc) and the issue presented every time. Even turning off clouds didn’t help, normally that would be totally smooth high FPS in cruise. https://youtu.be/IBMs9SsrIs4?si=MfmEyKJ2hscvboUv thanks

MSFS Auto FPS App
I’d like to add my thanks to @Reset XPDRfor an outstanding little app, it’s removed the annoying stuttering I used to get moving camera views at heavy airports whilst bringing out amazing ground detail from high altitude which I didn’t have before. One question, is it possible to set a standard minimum TLOD on ground but allow it to go further down if necessary (my system maintains TLOD 100 and 60 FPS easily except EGLL/KLAX etc with AI traffic, so I’d like it to be 100 standard but reduce below 100 only when necessary, not every time). My understanding is that the minimum TLOD is mandated at all airports regardless of performance. Maybe there’s something I’m not setting correctly?
