Yes you did. But Facebook CEO announced they will be changing that policy by popular demand very soon. You won't need a facebook account to run Oculus headsets any more, so  they promise. I'm not sure if they made the policy change yet.

You also need a iOS or Android device running a later version of OS to setup your Oculus headset. After that first setup, then you no longer need the Android/iOS device, it is only needed for setup.

Nice move from Facebook.
They don't need it linked since they own Oculus. If you log in through Facebook or through a non Facebook account, they still have your data. And there are other ways for them to link both accounts (if you have both).
In the end, Facebook wins all the time.
