I once saw a movie titled 'The Crowded Skies'.  It seems the skies are now becoming too crowded because of radio waves.

I once asked a rhetorical question about how much radio wave energy your body absorbed just standing on the corner in a big city.  Police and ambulance calls, radio programs, television, cell phones, aviation communications, anything producing radio waves.

Now it seems the growth of communications networks are going to interfere with some aviation instrumentation.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Energy is low so not harmful.

Radio altimeters it seems. And 5G the possible cause. Personally, I don't see why we need 5G.

I don't either.  My phone works pretty well now.  But wife has to scrap her phone before March when 5G becomes T-Mobile's standard.  They e-mailed me that her current phone won't work after March.  A lot of new phones will be sold in the next few months.

Perhaps someone here can tell us why it's necessary.

Definitely a need for 5G as phone image/video quality improves.

The problem with that is that some of us live in countries with terrible mobile data plans that make the faster speeds somewhat ridiculous.

With iPhones, the better solution would be for Apple to switch over to USB-C ports with USB4 speeds, rather than the very pokey USB 2.0 speeds supported by the Lightning port. However, I have a feeling they're aiming to go all wireless with their phones at some point.

I work in this environment. It's a true hot potatoe.

Some of our airport colleagues in Europe has proceeded with their 5G plans, while some has halted.

And yes it is about the radar altimeters.
