Long and short travel are both correct and depend on how one wants to rig the lever. Newer planes (and our pilots') seem to have the longer travel, but the deciding factor was usability. It was hard to finely control the condition lever if you wanted to adjust for, say, 58% Ng. On top of that, it was hard to reach with the mouse and visually confirm the position as it was obstructed by the prop lever. Fair enough! 😉
