Very useful for those of us thinking about the same upgrade. Just a couple of questions. - How smooth is the view panning? With the 4790k I get sometimes pretty good FPS, even in complex areas, but as soon as I pan the view, they decrease to the 20s for 1-3 seconds. Not too bad, but it bothers me. - What did you do with the cooler? Did you get a new one or kept the previous?
April 3, 20224 yr Your performance tests show probably the biggest improvement/dollars spent of any upgrade I've ever seen. The fps increases are dramatic! This demonstration indicates that for MSFS CPU performance is critical to high fps and smooth simming - without a powerful CPU, even a 3090 isn't going to do it. i7-6700k • Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 • 32GB DDR4 2666 • EVGA FTW ULTRA RTX3080 12GB

I just did a flight with the default Cessna 172 over Seattle with all the settings on ultra and AIG traffic at 85% at 2500 ft and when I would pan from looking forward to looking out the left window, it would drop by 2 or 3 frames but it was smooth. What do you have "Off Screen Terrain Pre-Caching" set at? Even with my 4790k I kept that at ultra and really helped with smoother panning. -I switched to a Noctua NH-U12S and am very happy with it. i5 12600K, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 Ram, MSI Z690 Pro-A WIFI Motherboard

Thanks, my "off screen terrain pre-caching" is at Ultra too, otherwise it gets really bad (which is counterintuitive but...) Anyway, I think I am convinced to take the same path you did. I have read some reviews of the 12600k and seems to be a great value for a gaming PC.

On both systems, I used the exact same settings and the exact same addons. The only difference is the computer hardware. Old System: I7 4790K, 32 GB DDR3, RTX 2070, MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard New System: I5 12600K, 32 GB DDR4, RTX 2070, MSI Z690 DDR4 Motherboard Test Flight #1-KORD to KLGA Aircraft: FBW A320 Addons: FSDreamteam KORD, REX Accuseason and Real Global Airport Textures Settings: 1080p; Frame Rate Limit at 60; Render Scaling at 140; default high settings; scattered clouds preset; Real World Traffic The first shot is from the I7 4790K system and the second shot is from the I5 12600K system. All shots are taken while the sim is "in motion." I did not pause the sim to take the screenshots. Cold and Dark Ready for Taxi Taxi Takeoff Roll Cruise Final Taxi to Gate At Gate- Engine Shutdown I did 2 other test flights that I will post the results of soon. One is with the default Beechcraft Bonanza over London and the other is with the Carenado M20 Ovation around New York. Stay tuned! Hi tomcatman24, Are the fps numbers you posted for the new system with Windows 10 or with Windows 11 installed?
