AA and AF

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. Just curious if anyone is using AA settings on your graphocs card as well as inside FSX? I don't care for the way it looks just using application controlled from my Nvidia settings then checking it within the sim. Also, the AF, is anyone using both? I am curious as to what level of performance hit either one would have. I assume alot, but it can't hurt to ask.

I set both to 16x in the CP. I believe I force 16xAF, and use enhance application for 16xAA.

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure what you are saying. (I am a little bit thick today I quess);)You are setting AA and AF in the Nvidia CP and then inside FSX? It sounded like you are saying you just use the CP settings only and leave it turned off inside the sim, correct? Thanks for your help.

Some say setting AA in FS yields best result, but that limits you to only 2x AA. If that's ok with you, try setting 2X in the CP, I think you will find it's as fast or faster than setting it in FS. If you want higher AA you need to use the CP!

Thanks

If you read the release notes of the latest nVidia drivers you are now required to set the AA in the nVidia control panel AND inside FS for it to work correctly.regards,Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for your reply. I don't have the latest driver as of yet, I am using 92.91 and have been pretty content with it for FS9, however, things seem to work better as suggested for FSX. Thanks for the tip. :)

Here's the deal:If you have an 8 series card, the drivers now have an "enhance the application setting" option, whereby you have to turn AA on in the sim, and then set the driver to whatever you want it to do above and beyond whatever the sim is already doing. If you have a 7 series or earlier card, leave the AA checkbox in FS itself off and set it via the driver. I use 8xS mode on my 7800 and it looks great. There's a really nice app called nHancer that makes setting this all up really easy: http://www.nhancer.com
