Can you run FSX in Vr? Quest 2?

Featured Replies

Hi all,  recently got back into flight sim and purchased msfs and a Quest 2 headset.

However missing using my PMDG  and A2A add on's. I purchased  quite oa lot of planes on FSX over the years, and before I spend hours reinstalling it to my new PC  is it possible to get it working in VR?

If yes,  is it straightforward to get running? How does it perform?

Is it likely  I will be disappointed compared to msfs visually?  Is it worth the  time and effort to spend hours messing with settings?

I cant see myself running it in 2d now  i have flown  vr so just wondered it its worth all the time and effort reinstalling etc etc

Is there additional software you have to buy/install?

Cheers all

There's no native VR functionality in FSX but there used to be an app called FlyInside that faciltated running it in VR. I don't know if it exists anymore. I had it years ago and it was messy and cumbersome. Obviously FSX is a far cry visually from the new MSFS.

Yes, FlyInside FSX Pro is the only option,

Actually, it isn't that bad at all, to fly FSX in VR. Especially when you have invested in Orbx global stuff. For me it beats 2D flying in FS2020 at all times.

But be aware that FlyInside does not support DX10 so therefore you cannot have shadows in the cockpit, something that was made possible with Steve's fix. Also, at evening/night it can cause some texture issues like missing airport buildings so you only see the jetways. Stuff like that seemed to happen at random in my case. And getting things started can also be a nuisance sometimes. but perhaps you'll have more luck with that. But when it works it works very well.

and the PMDG737 NGX cockpit in VR in FSX is really great.

What do you use as VR hardware using FlyInside Pro?

I am trying to be as economical as possible, maybe using previous generation VR hardware such as the Oculus Rift Series  or HTC Vive Cosmos Series..

Any thoughts??

Thanks!
