FPS Hog in New York City Area?

Featured Replies

Hello, as of late I've been having a lot of FPS issues in the New York City Area.  I know that NYC can be a bit demanding but I used to get FPS at least in the 30 range and now I'm seeing 15 or so FPS regularly, even taking off from KCDW that is not right in the heart of things.  FPS increases as I depart the NYC area.

I'm assuming this must be an addon causing some sort of issue, so I'm curious if anyone has come across anything particularly rough on FPS in the NYC area?  I have a bunch of airports plus Sam Scene New York City that I can go and disable one by one to see if there's an improvement but thought I'd check first if anyone has has come across a culprit.  I did try disabling Sam Scene NYC and that didn't seem to make a difference.

Note this issue existed before the SU9 beta as well.

Thanks

Dave

It's the SamScene scenery.  I had the issue a while back and couldn't figure out what it might be since it seemed like the FPS hit started pretty far from the city.  I then realized that the SamScene starts loading pretty far out. Try to disable it and check but I can say with near 100% certainty that is what it is.

Edit...sorry I missed the part where you tried to disable the SamScene.  Strange..as that is what was causing my problem. Do you have the KTEB scenery?  That seems heavy for me as well...

I have all the airports, bridges, and SamScene enabled and don't have issues, but I did make sure to lower the settings a little. I think I lowered texture from ultra to high and that helps. You can also lower the LOD slider a little just to help performance. With my new system, I can keep sliders at 200 and still smooth fps locked @30.

Thanks guys, I’ve been playing around with it and I think it’s actually AI traffic.  Not AIG but I’m using a modified default AI traffic file so I have default AI GA traffic but not the default airliners.  Turning off AI traffic seemed to bring most of my FPS back.  Maybe the volume of default AI GA traffic has a far bigger impact than AIG due to using more complex models (or less AI friendly models)?  More testing needed but I think I have a solid lead.

I should add that when I disabled samscene I did gain a few fps back but the AI solution took me from 15-18 to 35-40fps.
