Arrows Across America: Flying the Air Mail

Fun times mapping out the rough locations of these aux beacons. Ended up putting the sectional into photoshop and drawing a ton of lines to account for the tilted angle on the lat-long grid and working things out there.

That beacon to the north on the google earth shot is from the dreamsmith page, doesn’t appear on the 1931 strip map or 36 sectional. Think it was built later as a direct route over the mountains maybe in the 40s
Guess I’ll plop something down there
Another alternative route. There’s 2 on the previous section as well

We have just released version 3 of the Arrows Across America addon on flightsim.to here

The version includes over 3,800 miles of air mail routes covering:

From v1

  • CAM5 Salt Lake City - Pasco (543 miles)

From v2

  • CAM32 Portland to Spokane (333 miles)

New for v3

  • CAM4 Los Angeles - Salt Lake City (630 miles)
  • CAM8 San Diego - Seattle (1,166 miles)
  • The western leg of CAM18 San Francisco - Chicago, taking you as far as Salt Lake City (618 miles)
  • CAM26 Great Falls - Salt Lake City (516 miles)

In addition, v3 has:

  • new hubs at Salt Lake City & Reno
  • new animated hangar designs with the CAM contractor
  • new arrow types
  • a total of 47 Intermediate Landing Fields
  • period vehicles
  • an updated manual with route maps and contemporary weather overviews for the new states you will be flying through (no METAR or weather radar allowed!)

Fantastic!

AAA does not seem to overlay any of the addon scenery I have installed, so it doesn't interfere.

If it does for someone, this is probably going to be the solution:

Addon Linker | Tools | Options| Advanced , set up a second path for Addon LInker to inject and retract links out of the folder underneath Official instead of out of Community. This allows pulling either marketplace or 3rd party modern versions of airports out of the game temporarily.

The first path is one everyone has already set up to run stuff in and out of community. The second would be for Official. These two AOL paths cannot be a subset one of the other. But AOL gives a warning popup if you try to create an improper one like that.

From then on you can just run stuff in and out of community or the folder underneath official with mouse clicks. You could run all of Arrows Across America in or out or all of modern airports in or out.
