HI guys, Ive had some good comments before about VR (coming form TrackIR) and now that i understand my wife's Oculus Quest 2 will run VR in MSFS, im ready to give it a go...

Having said that, forgive my total noob questions...

She does have a cable that comes from the Oculus to a USB-C... where does this get plugged into? The graphics card? Not sure even after hunting YouTube...

Is there any software needed as well? Ive watched a few YouTube videos and it can seem a little overwhelming to be honest... I think i just need a real simply step by step tutorial to try and get this up and running as would love to give it a try...

Thanks guys for any help!

Cheers

Hi

I Have only had mine  a few months so not an expert

NB On windows 11.

if you have a USB C to USB C,    it plugs into a USB C port on your PC not  into the graphics card.

If You don't have a USB C on your PC you need a USC  - C to USB 3 cable,  a USB 2 might work  not sure I use C to C

You need to install the Oculus app, and also recommend the Oculus Tray Tool.(google it)

In the tray tool in Game settings I use  Mirror FOV  0.70 x 0.70  I believe it gives a fps boost,   I use Default SS  1.3

ASW & GPU scaling  both off, all other options disabled or none

In the Quest Link TAB  encode resolution 3648  , bitrate 300  and Enable Sharpening

I have Open XR installed, rendering set to 130%, Motion Reprojection Disabled

In oculus App have graphics set as 4480 x 2256  (1.3 x)

I run 80 hz in the oculus app (used to run 90, trying 80).    I do have 3 monitors attached I find if I turnoff the one msfs  is shown on it does seem to start stuttering so leave this on

You should find in "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusDebugTool.exe"

Create a shortcut for this on your desktop.  Now my  procedure of running it all

My specs are a 3080 on a i7 12700k with 32 Gig ddr5.

The order Set it all up is

turn on quest 2, connect link cable

launch the oculus try tool

launch oculus app

connect via link cable

Then launch debug tool

Toggle window visibility within the tray tool

service\toggle console visibility

( do Not Minimise window that runs a load of data in a window scrolls away leave it maximised)

this restarts oculus app.  Reconnect to pc in the app via the link cable (don’t allow data)

Launch msfs- I do this via the Xbox app

set up flight in 2d

Fly now

once loaded switch to vr

After about 2 months of frustration and messing with settings I am finally at a quality  / smoothness to enjoy it  .  Sometimes it goes a little stuttery looking out the sides,  sometimes resetting the Quest sorts this

As I say I am no techy i don't know what these setting all mean but I am getting acceptable performance, the instruments  in front of me are readable small ones i need to lean forward occasionally    and outside although not perfect looks great,  not flown in 2d or with my Track Ir since getting the Quest, Flying the F18 in thunder clouds is awesome !

Hope this helps

Hardware setup: don't know, i use an Oculus Rift S instead of Q2.

Software: basic setup: Oculus app

More is not needed to get you going but depending on the result you get you might need to dig into Bozdog's tips.

On my system (see sig) VR is not that smooth in MSFS. In DCS however, it's a lot better.

First thing to do is install  Open XR from the Microsoft store.  Without that it would not see my headset at all

Run openxr.  Check if your quest is set up as the default path.   Also check this video

I originally used a usb c to usb 2 and that worked   Is your pc ok to run ?

if you have not got steam download it  then install steam vr  install one of the free very games and see if that works ie connects

If it does  should be able to msfs working   I am away from my pc at the moment - weather too nice !  I can check some more registry settings later if you still have problems     Try steam first  just to make make sure pc is spec enough  .

the important thing is having the correct settings in openxr I believe ,I use windows 11  the quest software doses not officially support it yet I - asked them  but it does work.

check this video    There was another that really helped me but I cant find it on my phone

Also another good video although I didn’t have to do the registry edit when I installed everything it was already set to my quest

I don’t use virtual desktop

You could also try if the cable doesn’t work connecting through air link if you’ve got a Wi-Fi card on your PC can just connect to the Oculus app via airlink and then run MSFS
