Stutter on touchdown...

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Who else experiences this?  Stutter on touchdown......really annoying.  First of I have an ageing PC and happy to attribute the problem to hardware, I run i7 4790k, 1070 and 16GB running at 1080P.  Thing is I run very moderate settings mixture of low-med-high.  Even running everything at low I experience the same issue, stutter on touchdown but not at every airfield either.  Most of the fields I land at are either enhanced freeware or payware.  I've tried with photogrammetry On and Off.

Things is if it was performance, my usual moderate settings give me 25-30 FPS locked and smooth performance from cold and dark, take off, cruise, descent, approach (even with PMDG 737) but sometimes I get this horrible stutter as the main gear hits the tarmac and its driving me mad.  I can't attribute it to one particular aircraft either.  Anyone else have the same issue?

I've done some googling with various answers and magic fixes dotted about but nothing seems to cure it.

Thanks

Thomas Derbyshire

You could check if that's the ground performance issue observed since SU9. It's caused by the main thread being exhausted and it does (according to my experience) only affect certain airports. This way you can take off from a "good"  airport with high fps and land on a "bad" one with low ones.

You should be able to check this by taking off/landing from/to a few airports.

If it's this effect, it can be circumvented by uninstalling all WU PG cities (which I don't consider a solution, though).

Kind regards, Michael

I had the exact same thing all of a sudden stutter mess on landing and takeoff out of no where, once airborne all gone.

Solution for me was to turn on DEV mode, all stutters gone.

Hmmm thanks Michael, I'm sure this issue pre dates SU9 but will look into it.  When flying airliners notably the PMDG I do turn PG off because I usually don't have time to look at it anyway and I know PG is CPU hungry.  When you say uninstall PG cities, you mean via content manager and why don't you consider it a solution?

Thanks for reply, you mean Dev mode on permanently?  Or flick it on and off??

There must be something special about those WU PG cities, swiching off PG as such doesn't seem to help. I agree, it sounds a bit like black magic and perhaps it is.

I actually like PG (granted, with a few esceptions) and don't want to loose those PG cities including, say Tokyo. That's why I don't consider this a solution.

You can find more on this effect and the solutions in threads here on AVSIM and the official forum.

Yes, Dev mode on has been reported as a solution, too, but has the disadvantage  of your flight not being logged.

And as always it's possible your issue is caused by something else.

Kind regards, Michael

Are you using a controller with vibration?

Nope Warthog Throttle and Stick.

Last night I created a rolling cache 20GB, I've typically had this off because early in the sim's life it caused issues.  I did 2 flights afterwards and no stutter but this isn't conclusive because its intermittent.  More testing required and I've fiddle with Dev mode if the problem persists.

Yep - Switch to Dev mode and all that goes away.

It doesn't record your flight in the logbook but I use Volanta for that anyway.

Hope this helps.
