If you hear scratchy pops with stutters...

Featured Replies

Then try reaching out your hands and placing them on your monitor screen and rebuke Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation.

And give the keyboard a 3 finger salute and look in task monitor processes for Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation. And disable it.

This will do nothing for stutters if your stutters are only visual. It may be a cure if you hear noise during the stutters.

MSFS DEV mode FPS display: I noticed black lines in the Main Thread color bar every time there was a stutter. Every time. So I knew the cpu was doing something in the background. Since there was an associated noise, I looked for something to do with sound.

With WADGI process running flying from little LSTA (Swiss) thru the canyons west towards Lake Geneva (which separates Switzerland from France), I got brief one second stutters every minute or so during the 30 minute flight. There were black lines in the Main Thread bar about 3 times that often.

I disabled WADGI and did the same 30 minute flight: 0 black lines, 0 stutters. (before there were about 90 times black lines appeared and about 30 times there was a noisy stutter when that happened).

I'm not sure what WADGI is but there are fewer adjustments available from the speaker icon on the taskbar with it disabled. But my sound does not change at all, I guess because I'm not using other sound drivers, just the normal Realtec High Definition sound.

I just closed Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation from the Task Manager - I lost all sound on my PC, and the process then just restarted anyway - but I still had no sound until I restarted my PC.

Thanks for report, that proves this 'miracle' will not work for everybody.

I use the exact flight above often, to test planes, MSFS options, etc. It's my standardized test. Way back at one of the Sim Updates, Asobo added to options under Sound. At that time these stutters began to appear on my sim in heavy dense scenery areas. Every flight of my standardized test since then had these stutters. But if and when I remove WADGI (background process) then there are no more stutters, no more black lines in the DEV mode FPS monitor main thread color bar.

It was WU Australia that introduced the sound cutout stutter over dense scenery issue (not a sim update). FSDreamteam were baffled why a Word Update suddenly caused stutters with their Swiss mesh. A world update is not like a sim update. So that's when this issue started. Here's a thread back when this issue began:

Pause/stutter every minute or so - Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) - The AVSIM Community

What I noticed was that this Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation doesn't have it's own process, for example that can be set to disabled in it's launch properties.    It seems to run as part of the wider Windows Audio process (as far as I can tell).    So would have to be shut down manually each time.

Interesting investiation though.   I do get some audio pops and stutters in MSFS, hence the interest.

I get those scratches and pops every now an then. I thought it was my creative sound drivers. I'm glad that it's not.

I use a completely external soundboard (that I also used for music creation) on my PC and still get those occasional pops and stutters, so yeah, I definitely think it's a minor issue with the MSFS audio engine.

They are more prevalent when stutters are present. The only stutters I've had since I upgraded my CPU/RAM/Board were using some freeware mesh in Switzerland. I deleted that and my pauses/stutters were gone. But, occasionally I do hear the sound distortion.
