AA no where to be found

You should be set AA for FSX BOXED from NVIDIA Inspector, there is not a per se option for AA in FSX menu.

There is an antialiasing on/off switch on the Display page.
That picture of Nvidia Inspector must be ancient.
Today's PCs can handle any of the settings with ease,
even 8x SGSS and it looks great.

I don't , it's not my system, not even close. It's an old internet picture just for guidance purposes.

Do you mean that there is no anti-aliasing tick box at all?
Perhaps a screenshot of your own would be of more help?
