Air Canada 747-200 Combi - Arriving in CYVR Rwy 8R

Featured Replies

Here, as continuation (and conclusion) of my previous post, I resume my onwards flight headed (southeast) over the lonely and rugged coastlines of Gulf of Alaska. Overnight, my 747-200BM (Black Bib) had to remain suspended in the virtual ether...🙂...in deference to some other (more) pressing (non-aviator) tasks, but it was undaunted and unaffected by the vagaries of my computer...(neither by the spell of heavy rain and thunderstorm...during the night....that could have mandated a reboot of the PC and a restart/repeat of the flight...in fact, the lingering effects of the night's stormy, dark, and rainy weather continues to the day...reminding me now of the life-like impressions of similar rough weather scenes seen in MSFS, around here...).

Anyway, you might recall, I'd adjourned my (PANC->CYVR) flight, exactly 1 nm from INS [WPT 1], see the last but one shot in my previous post (also reproduced here as the 3rd shot, below). The [WPT 1] (LAT/LONG = N60°28'90" / W146°35'80") is actually nearabout the (RW) navaid "(JOH) JOHNSTONE POINT VOR/DME, AK", approximately 110 nms (~125 miles) SE from Anchorage. Still, with over 1000 nms of flight distance left to Vancouver, for continued navigation, I have again gone back to my singular (custom-added) INS Unit, that proved its worth as a trusted (travel) companion, by reliably guiding me and this (Classic) 742 a/c, progressively through the subsequent WPTs (see e.g. the transition across [WPT 3], shots (#4/#5) below, with upcoming distance to [WPT 4 ] / DME [34], seen as 72 nms on the CDU)....and so...I flew on...

I wish to point out, here, two pictures, below, regarding a distinction that the repainter of this Air Canada livery has stated in the README and brought to my attention. I'd indicated that the 747(-M) Combi could carry freight in the rear section of the fuselage thanks to its (large) side cargo door, and pax would sit up ahead in the front section of the fuselage. This means there should not be any (regular) window lights seen in the rear section of the fuselage. So, the repainter has (thoughtfully) corrected this anomaly by "extinguishing" the row of (rear) window lights from the default textures. I've shown, below, two B2B (night) pictures (shots (#8/#9)), where you can see, first, the default textures with window lights in the rear, and then the corrected textures without such window lights in the rear fuselage, as it should be.

And to simplify arrival matters for myself, in this virtual flight, I've entered my last (INS) LAT/LONG [WPT 8], as a Rwy extension (user defined waypoint) about ~20 nms from Vancouver (Intl.) Airport, along the centerline of ILS Rwy 08R. This made things much easier by permitting me to directly capture the Localizer signal for this Rwy. This a/c (SIM) seamlessly and precisely adhered to the LOC/GS signals for a very nice touchdown (see shots below).

Hope you enjoy these pictures, from the rest of the flight, of this classic 747 (Combi), in the classic Air Canada colors, from my virtual world. Such 747 Combis, though, once upon a time, quite popular among the major airlines, are now just a reminder of a bygone piece of 747 history. These days, pax and cargo transport typically do not mix, due to multiple (safety and regulatory) factors...though there are a few 747-400Ms still around with operators...e.g., if interested, please refer to this interesting article, dated January of this year, "JetOneX brings a Boeing 747-400M «Combi» back to life and is the only operator of the model"

[Finally, as bonus...🙂...I have included two (payware) quality images (1st and 2nd shot below) of the 747-100 (RA001/N7470), World's first Boeing 747 'Jumbo Jet', a (JF/CLS HD) repaint for which I also came across in the library. I'd previously mentioned and shown (freeware a/c) images of this iconic 747 in Item (6) of one of my recent posts. Note, below, in shot #1, the numerous (and eye catching) Airline logos in the front fuselage, starting with SABENA and IBERIA and ending with Lufthansa and Pan Am... looks nice and colorful...! This repaint shown here, is, of course, on a 747-200, not on a 747-100...]

Thanks for your interest...! And good flying, yourselves...!
