July 28, 20223 yr I was a fan of JetBlue until COVID had them cancelling all the flights I booked with them at a short notice. Spirit I flew once. They are just terrible. I wonder what this will bring to the onboard experience for the customers who hate but tolerate Spirit, and loved (d) Jetblue. Message from the CEO: Quote Dear Spirit Guest, Today is an exciting day as we are announcing plans to combine with JetBlue Airways. The combination of JetBlue and Spirit will create the fifth largest domestic airline, serving more than 77 million Guests annually on more than 1,700+ daily flights to over 125 destinations in 30 countries. Bringing together our airlines will be a game changer, enhancing our ability to grow and compete with the dominant U.S. carriers while also delivering low fares and outstanding service. The transaction is expected to: Increase relevance in key cities including Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Orlando, and San Juan as well as in the Big Four airline hubs of Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas and Miami. Combine a fleet of 458 aircraft with orders for 300 Airbus aircraft equipped with fuel-efficient, lower-carbon new engine option, or neo, engines, providing increased flexibility and efficiency to bring Guests to their favorite destinations. Expand the JetBlue Experience to all aircraft, offering JetBlue’s unique combination of low fares and awarding-winning service. Today’s announcement is just the first step in a process that will take time. Until the transaction closes, it’s business as usual for Spirit. We expect to conclude the regulatory process and close the transaction no later than the first half of 2024. There will be no immediate impact to ticketing or flight schedules, and you can continue to book and fly with Spirit as you always have. Spirit Saver$ Club® members will continue to receive access to exclusive fares and deals on seats, bags and options that have provided millions of dollars in savings. We are committed to keeping you informed and will share more details in the coming months. As a valued Guest, we thank you for your support of Spirit and for joining us on this next leg of our shared journey! July 29, 20223 yr More airline consolidation. Now there will be even less competition. Be prepared for lower quality service and higher ticket costs. Ironically, though, much higher ticket costs would solve a lot of the current problems with airlines. There would be fewer passengers and likely an increased level of quality and service.
