Lost all sounds after unplugging headset

Featured Replies

Hi fellow simmers,

I'm enroute a flight and lost all my sounds after unplugging my headset.

This is not the beta! I've just done things the way I usually do them. Take off with my headset (cheapo track IR) and when on cruise alt, unplug my headset and use the speakers for sounds. This time all sounds were gone after unplugging my headset. Of course I tried to plug in the headset again but there are no sounds from MSFS. I can hear sounds from windows and other apps but none from MSFS.

Anyone any clue? Thanks!

cheers,
NiIs U.

I suspect that MSFS sensed the presence of your headset and adjusted accordingly. But the sim didn't reset itself to your default sound source when you disconnected the headset. Go to Options > General Options > Sound, and then reset to default.

reset to default

Hi David,

unfortunately, that didn't help. I had to land without any sounds (weird feeling). Only after restarting the sim completely, sounds were back to normal. Creating just a new flight also didn't help...

Hope it was just a one-off.

Thanks anyway.

cheers,

I’m also using a headset for gaming but normal external speakers for everything else. Sometimes I forget to switch to the headset in Windows before starting the sim. When I switch to my headset output source after launching the sim, I get no sound at all. Rhe only solution is to restart the sim unfortunately, which is what you did. If someone knows a way to switch the sound source in game, I’m all ears.

If I pull out my headset I always close the MSFS window before doing it. Then I'll plug it back in and bring the MSFS window back up. Works for me.

Also click on the speaker button on the windows task bar and make sure you have youe headphones selected as audio out.
