San Luis Obispo (KSBP) to Hearst Castle in a P51

Featured Replies

Fancied a break from the 737, so took a little trip up the PCH from KSBP to go visit Hearst Castle at San Simeon. Had the great pleasure to have visitied this place twice for real, along with a couple of drives up the PCH from LA to SF and vice versa. For a boy from rainy old England that is one paradisiacal trip. Thinking about it, I think the first trip down the highway I did was in a Mustang, but a four wheeled no-winged version.

So here we go, heading off from KSBP in a bright leery Mustang. Actually a little too bright for a lot of the captures I took, I'll probably go back and play with the weather settings a bit and see if I can get some calmer shots at some point.

Approaching the castle, which is just a short hop up the coast from KSBP. This is one of those shots where the colour has bled out a bit on the plane, but it does show the approach quite nicely

Although, if you'd taken the tourist bus instead, this would be your approach view

Time for the tour then. This became a PoI in the last USA update, and is pretty good. The original was a bit basic, to put it kindly. The modelling is nice, but you can't actually "land" on the various balconies etc with the drone like you can with a lot of other models. Shame, I enjoy a good balcony view.

Beautiful place, and if you've never been there well worth a trip if you're out that way. Even if you can't arrive in your own P-51 (they do have their own strip if you do though, just down the hill!)

Heading back down to the coast now

And off up the coast towards Monterey. I did continue up to KHAF and I'll post some pix of that part of the trip tomorrow.

Enjoy!

Wonderful trip, Andy. Like you I have been there twice, so I know that the water in the large outdoor pool is too dark, you don't see the tiles 😄😄

Any attempt to stretch fuel is guaranteed to increase headwinds

My specs: AMD Radeon RX6700XT, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB RAM, 34" monitor, screen resolution: 2560x1080

Fantastic Tour of the San Simeon / Hearst Castle...!!

Never been there...but here is a curious coincidence, Andy, just a week or so ago, I was reading Steinbeck's, I think, it was The Wayward Bus, where he mentions San Simeon...🙂....so, I was looking up the history of this place... (Oh well...maybe one day...thanks for these pictures) ...!
