What is a 'mesh' exactly

Title says it, I would like an explanation of what exactly a mesh is and what you actually achieve by buying one? Is it actual scenary, repairs to default scenary?

It is an elevation model for an area.

It can fix existing problems or simply add more (finer) detail.

Screenshot of that link.   Basically you take DEM satellite elevation data and convert it to elevation points,  then link all the points with polygons to form a wire mesh,  then drop the terrain textures over them.   Bear in mind that link is about FSX/P3D,  and the default global data in MSFS is much higher resolution than the FSX default.

I thought this analogy was a good one...  The mesh is the floor-boards, the Bing or Google map textures are the carpet, and the building, objects, photogrammetry or other scenery add-ons are the furniture. 🙂
