Upgrading Ryzen 5 3600X

Featured Replies

hello,

My current config is X570 Aorus Ultra / R5 3600X / RTX 3070 / 32 Go DDR4

I imagine upgrading my CPU soon to balance the setup.

I target R7 5800X even if 5800X3D seems better but more expensive.

What do you think ?

An other question : Do I have to upgrade BIOS before the change or after ?

Thanks for answer

Franck

Looks like the 5800X3D is the CPU to get!

I would do the BIOS update before installing the CPU. You should very seriously consider the X3D CPU (assuming you don't need super performance in applications). It is (for the next 13 hours) $399.99 at Newegg. There are a number of videos on YT showing the excellent performance of this in games.

That’s really tempting. Also a $20 off coupon bringing it down further. But I’m not sure if the CPUs released in a few months will be way better or if prices will drop even further in the near future.

tough choice

5800x3d, its still the best chip for msfs vs all of them. A 5800x3d is probably 35/40% faster then 5800 in msfs.

Hello,

Thanks for your answer. So finally, yes, I will consider the 3D. Let see.

Thanks

@sfgiants13 -- there won't be another chip released for the AM4 platform which is what the 5800x3d runs on. The new chips (the 7xxxx3D) are not going to be released until Q1 2023 and requires a AM5 motherboard and DDR5 RAM (which is ATM more expensive than DD4 on the AM4 platform). So you are looking at a more expensive solution in the future. And yes, the current x3d chip will probably decrease overtime in price, but it depends on how long you want to wait for a price drop.

Sounds like I'm better off going for the 5800x3d now then.  Thanks!

For those wondering you can snag the 5800x3d for just under $350 + tax on ebay but today is the last day I believe.  Use coupon countdown22 for something like $88 off.  While it may go a bit lower it's not worth it for me to wait a few months to save another $20 so I'm jumping on it.

That is being sold by Antonline (a respected online retailer) and the coupon code does expire today.

Yep just snagged it.  Now I'll wait for the 4090 to come in stock and hopefully black friday will have some deals to complete the rest of the build.  It will be quite the upgrade over my 1060 and whatever garbage CPU I have even though it did manage to run P3D fairly well with low enough settings.

Another vote for the 5800X3D. You will need to update your BIOS and also chipset drivers.

Hello,

For chipset driver, do i have to download from aorus website (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X570-AORUS-ULTRA-rev-10/support#support-dl-driver-chipset) or AMD (https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/x570) ?

Thanks for answer
