Vectors from STAR to approach

Featured Replies

I need a bit of help here.

I create my flight plans in SimBrief and import them directly in Pilot2atc. I have "ATC assign SID", "ATC assign STAR" and "ATC assign approach" all enabled. The assigment works nicely. The problem is, that when I reach the end of the STAR, I get a rw heading directly to the rw - not to the beginning of the approach.

As I understand other posts, I can use: <CallSign> inbound at <CurrentAltitude> request Radar Vectors for ILS to <runway>....

Som my questions:

  • Is the the only and right way to get the vectors from the STAR to the approach?
  • If yes, when should I issue the request?

Last time I saw this, it was a STAR with "Manual Termination"

It sounds like you were flying a STAR with a Manual Termination, which means the controller will give some sort of heading to final or full vectors, depending on the circumstances.

You can usually press the APPR button to the right of the map and see if you will be getting vectors or not, based on what it displays.  If you want vectors anyway, then you can request them verbally anytime before the controller turns you to final..  "<CallSign> request radar vectors for the ILS approach to runway two five left", for example.  I would do this far enough out so that the program can set up a good vector pattern.

Great - I'll try that.

Great mod - it has helped me a lot to understand ATC terms.

"I get a rw heading directly to the rw - not to the beginning of the approach."

I get the same result whether using a star or not.  the vector was to the runway and not to the approach waypoint as it used to do.  This is wrong and requesting radar vectors that are already supposed to be issued is no better.
