November 16, 20223 yr After updating to SU10 i encountered problems when i ran my FS 2020 Thrustmaster Warthog script (generates a Thrustmaster Combined profile in FS 2020) that while loading the sim (at around 85% in the loading progress bar), the script would return a USB disconnect problem from one of the devices. When the sim then completed loading i was always greeted with a window that new devices were detected (2, Warthog Stick and Warthog Throttle) and that i could either customize them or load the default setup. Sometimes the script would load fine but mostly not. Disconnect did not come from USB powersettings, these are all unticked. Tried different USB ports, all but stick and throttle connected, USB hub, powerd USB hub, always the same problem. Solution turned out to delete the Thrustmaster Warthog Combined profile in FS 2020 after which the the script would run fine and i had to redo the entire profile for it. In all the previous SU's i never had to do this. I never encountered a USB disconnect problem before SU10. Then came the SU11 update and the same problem roared it's ugly head, most of the time when running the Target script, the script would stop on a USB disconnect and the sim would load the Warthog combo as 2 separate devices. I decided to start from scratch and delete (format) the entire FS 2020 installation, re-install everything but only the basic sim, no Worldupdates or anything else only to be greeted by the same problem (the profiles are stored in the cloud and reloaded when the sim is installed again). This again result in the same problem. - When i don't run a script and the Thrustmaster Combined profile isn't loaded all works fine. - When i run the FS 2020 Target script,9 out of 10 this results in a USB disconnect (and mostly also TrackIR problems afterwarts) of the combined device. - In other games like DCS, IL-2, X-Plane, when a script runs it never crashed or gives a USB disconnect error, only in FS2020. - I then ran a complete empty script, it would just generate the Thrustmaster Combined device in FS2020 and nothing was programmed into the script but also here i encountered the USB disconnect problem. - In the end i again deleted the Thrusmaster Combined profile in SU11 and again this solved the issue, no more USB disconnects when the game loaded the controller profile and Target script runs to generate a combined device. I'm probably good until the next SU... November 16, 20223 yr Just curious, why are you using scripts? Is there an advantage when using those? I just connect my TM Warthog and TPR rudder with the standard Windows drivers and all is working wel in three sims I used so far. So I'm curious what's the gain in using scripts.
November 16, 20223 yr Author With scripts you can do a lot more then just assign one function with one button press. I use layers (with the S3 and Pinky switch) to use the same buttons/switches for more then one purpose. It's possible to chain or sequence certain commands, put delay or timers in, make buttons work with certain flag conditions etc... I use led control on the throttle to see what layer i'm in. I can feel that on the pinky but a visual aid is always nice. I also use it to change the axis response with a button press for things like aerial refueling, not directly needed in FS 2020 but for example in DCS, the F-16 has other stick axis responses when the refuel door opens but other aircraft don't so with a script i can have the same axis response in other aircraft. I can also control other stuff outside the sim from with the same script, like TrackIR on/off, reset, VR control and the like. You can use the Thrustmaster Target software or use something like Joystick Gremlin or RS Mapper to get a lot more out of your controllers. PS: I'm on my 6th test run and so far no more USB disconnects, question stays why it happens after a SU update. November 17, 20223 yr Author My DCS profiles are a lot more worked out then the one i'm using for FS 2020 since DCS is my main sim to fly. But since i'm used to run a script for each sim i play, i made one for FS 2020 also + it gives the advance to control stuff outside FS 2020 at the same time. I did set up a profile for each individual device (stick and throttle) so when the combined script is stopped due to the USB disconnect error that FS 2020 causes (i only have it in this sim since SU10 so i blaim FS 2020, never seen it in any of my other sims), i can always use the separate devices to fly instead of reloading everything which takes a lot of time, even when everything is on fast NVMe drives. Restarting the script directly makes FS 2020 recognize the combined setup again but this only works for buttons or actions that are keyboard related, not for DX buttons or axis. So a restart of FS 2020 is mandatory for a full working combined setup (and then it can cause a USB disconnect on the next load so... 😞 ). Seems FS 2020 has USB disconnect problems now and then, i've read on various forums that it also can happen while in flight, never experienced that at the moment, only during loading into the main screen. I can almost pinpoint when it will happen on the loading bar, if it passes that point, i'm good. PS: The topic tittle might not be correct since it's only a wild guess but when i deleted the combined profile after SU10 and SU11 and created a new one the problem is gone (and i hope it stays away with SU12). December 11, 20223 yr Author Coming back to this for an update: History: - Got new computer, installed SU9, directly after SU10 update i had my Warthog briefly disconnecting when loading FS2020. Cured by removing the Warthog combined profile. No problem after that with USB disconnections. - Updated to SU11, after first start of SU11 it happened again, Warthog disconnected briefly during loading of FS2020 (but never in any other sim). - After trial and error and 9/10 a Warthog USB disconnect while loading FS2020 i did the same thing as with SU10, deleted the Warthog combined profile, ran FS2020 (no disconnect), set up a new profile and it ran fine, no more usb disconnects. But then 4 days later it happened again so i started doing some search and found that there were quite some issues with USB disconnects (various devices going from keyboard/mouse to Elgato streamdecks etc...) on AMD AM4 X570 motherboards. Solutions i came across: - disabling the CPU C-state (didn't work, still regular USB disconnects on loading FS2020 (and again not on other sims)). - BIOS update (no joy as i'm on the latest). - Latest chipset drivers, new ones had come out since i installed the previous ones (didn't work, still regular USB disconnects on loading FS2020 (and again not on other sims)). I then started playing around with the various USB ports, USB 2.0 (still disconnects), USB 3.0, other ports then previously used (still disconnects), power hub through USB 2.0 (still disconnects), power hub through USB 3.0 (still disconnects). I also have 2 USB-C ports, one on the front, one on the back. Since the one on the front serves other purposes, i bought a USB-C to USB A 3.0 Y cable giving me 2 USB ports on that USB-C port where i plugged in both throttle and stick. Since then, 2 weeks now, not a single USB disconnect while loading FS2020 so fingers crossed... December 11, 20223 yr I also fly with a Warthog and don't get USB disconnects. I'm sure you know that in Control Panel of Windows the Device Manager has an HID and a USBc section. I have about 45 listings under both of those headings. I have to manually check all 45 or so Properties | Power Management to make sure the 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' checkbox is not checked. After doing that, any update to windows, and sometimes updates to MSFS, will recheck some of those boxes. If I don't, then a very few of those many boxes will be checked and then I do have issues like yours. There is a checkbox in the Power Options section of windows Control Panel that looks like it is supposed to make doing all this long process unnecessary. But it does not work. It never has worked in Windows 10 nor in Windows 11. I have Warthog stick and Warthog throttle, Russian rudder pedals, Desktop Aviator trim panel, CH Quad (which has 12 buttons and 6 axis, I don't use these axis for throttles, I use them for other things), a Streamdeck, and 3 Logitech Flight Panels (Radio, AP, and Switches). All are USB. So I need lots of USB ports. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. All of them are multiple times checked (and unticked). It's needed because when you switch around USB stuff, they can be reset. It also happened "only" with FS2020 and then alone while loading the sim, i could tell by looking at the progress bar when it was +/- going to happen. The disconnects are also very briefly, like pulling the USB and re-plug it immediately. Since the switch to USB-C no more disconnects (holding wood). Also, on my previous PC i had problems with my Rift-S being recognized on boot. Replugging the USB of the Rift-S solved that but also stop/start of the Oculus service would cure the problem without unplugging the USB of the device. Once the device was recognized, it would stay that way if the PC would be left to run. Once shutdown, it was a hit/miss on the next reboot. On my new PC i don't have a single problem yet with the Rift-S being not recognized (or gets disconnected in one way or the other). December 12, 20223 yr Nice to hear USB-c works better than USB (I don't have any USBc ports on my system). USB 1 hubs connected to USB 3.1 and 3.2 ports works more reliably than USB 2 or 3 hubs for my flight controllers. Speed is of no concern with flight controls, as far as I can see. USB 3.2 and USB-c hubs and ports are needed for best reading and writing speed. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
