December 30, 20223 yr Just installed XP12. Been a while since flying with X-Plane. I want to assign a keyboard command to a button on the joystick (that will switch me from an external to internal view). Thanks in advance. Settings->Joystick Choose a button in the UI and click the drop down arrow to assign.

If it's not in the dropdown, then maybe you can try configuring it with "FlywithLUA" with a script. I'd love to help you out with it, but I'm wrapping up for the night. It's almost 4am and I need to get some sleep. I don't have much experience with FlywithLUA, but it should be able to do what you want.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...
December 30, 20223 yr I have set up a button on my yoke linked to the command: default view This takes you inside the cockpit from whichever camera view you're in. By default this is set to the letter W on the keyboard Edited December 30, 20223 yr by peroni
December 30, 20223 yr Author Okay, thanks gents. The only thing so far, flying at dusk or dawn kills the frame rates. Everything else is fine so far. Latest video at The Flight Level Flight Over Frozen Lake Erie - Between Ice and Clouds - Ultimate Solitude - The Perfect Memory

We've discussed this in the HS discord, and we've drawn a conclusion that this may be caused by a combination of the street lights (spill lights) turning on and scenery loading. Spill lights are very heavy on the CPU and GPU. To the point I had to get confirmation from Ben Supnik if I could have over 800 spill lights in the 650 cockpit without affecting performance too much. It happens at dawn and dusk. The problem disappears at night because the scenery is mostly dark (not drawn/loaded like it is during daylight hours) and the problem disappears during the day because the scenery is on but the spill lights are off. I can't say if this is definitely the cause without Laminar digging some more, but it sure does look like it. Edited December 31, 20223 yr by GoranM
December 31, 20223 yr Author @GoranM Okay, thanks for this. Managed a combination of graphic settings to minimize the fps drop. Latest video at The Flight Level Flight Over Frozen Lake Erie - Between Ice and Clouds - Ultimate Solitude - The Perfect Memory
