Internal to External View Help

Featured Replies

Just installed XP12. Been a while since flying with X-Plane. I want to assign a keyboard command to a button on the joystick (that will switch me from an external to internal view). Thanks in advance.

Settings->Joystick

Choose a button in the UI and click the drop down arrow to assign.

I couldn't find the correct command in the dropdown.

If it's not in the dropdown, then maybe you can try configuring it with "FlywithLUA" with a script.

I'd love to help you out with it, but I'm wrapping up for the night.  It's almost 4am and I need to get some sleep.

I don't have much experience with FlywithLUA, but it should be able to do what you want.

Put 'external' in the search entry. Or 'go to' if you saved it in one of the quick look slots.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

I have set up a button on my yoke linked to the command: default view
This takes you inside the cockpit from whichever camera view you're in.
By default this is set to the letter W on the keyboard

The only thing so far, flying at dusk or dawn kills the frame rates. Everything else is fine so far.

We've discussed this in the HS discord, and we've drawn a conclusion that this may be caused by a combination of the street lights (spill lights) turning on and scenery loading.  Spill lights are very heavy on the CPU and GPU.  To the point I had to get confirmation from Ben Supnik if I could have over 800 spill lights in the 650 cockpit without affecting performance too much.  It happens at dawn and dusk.  The problem disappears at night because the scenery is mostly dark (not drawn/loaded like it is during daylight hours) and the problem disappears during the day because the scenery is on but the spill lights are off.

I can't say if this is definitely the cause without Laminar digging some more, but it sure does look like it.
