January 13, 20233 yr Hi Everyone, I hope all is well! I had been flying flight sims since the early 90's. I stopped in about 2018 when my gaming PC just became too old and life got in the way. I am back! I got a new PC and have been flying in DCS World but really miss the beauty of a great looking sim (DCS world is fine for shooting things and don't get me wrong it looks ok). I have a new PC, it seems very good so far. - INTEL CORE PROCESSOR I9-13900K 8P/16 + 16E 3.00GH - GSKILL 32GB DDR5-5600MHZ RIPJAWS S5 MEMORY - ASUS PRIME Z790-P WIFI D5 DDR5 ATX W/ WI-FI 2.5GBT LA N 4 PCIE X16 1 PCIE X1 3 M.2 4 SATA LGA1700 CEC - NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6X VIDEO CARD and 2 2TB SSD drives. I am using and Alienware 34" curved gaming monitor with an eye on the new PIMAX Crystal 12k VR Headset when it gets ironed out. I of course have a track IR and use a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS at the moment (I am not sure I am staying with this for civil aviation, any suggestions on a nice civ setup for controls? I am stuck with having items on my desktop... I have watched some videos and this game looks STUNNING!! I have already signed up for Alaska Virtual Airline as that seems like a lot of fun and I just got a VATSIM account. I plan on purchasing this sim today, should I get it from Steam or Microsoft? I have accounts with both - does download speed differ or anything? See you ion the skies! Rob

Hello and welcome (back?) to Avsim. Personally, I prefer the Steam version of MSFS. It is more stable and requires fewer processes to run correctly to install/update than the MS store version, IMO. Only thing to note is that some of the key config files are for the Steam version are held in different folder locations to the MS store default. A quick Google search will reveal the details. No difference in download speeds as after you download the program update (a couple of GBs usually), all the content (multiple GBs) is updated via MS' own servers.
