January 22, 20233 yr So I just overflew KSLC area at FL370. Real-time weather and time as well. It was around 0200z. Maybe I simply don’t recall but the whole city running north and south was really lit up with night lights that was wholly unrealistic. I’m talking the ground, everything was bathed in a bright orange glow. Even the mountain side facing the city was lit up. Most my setting on Ultra. Can someone confirm if this is expected sim behavior or is it just me? Edited January 22, 20233 yr by B777ER Eric
January 22, 20233 yr Maybe ground fog? A picture will help, but is too late I'm afraid. 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

No, what was odd was as I got closer the bright orange glow seemed to fade and leaving just the normal point night lights from the street lighting. I did switch the clock to day real quick to see if it was a ground fog but it was not. It was snow all over the ground. I think maybe that might be the cause. January 22, 20233 yr I am guessing you are seeing the infamous 'sepia mask' since you were at 370. The snow does make it much brighter...I noticed it being brighter during the Xmas snow storms on the east coast. What is your Terrain LOD? I like the sepia mask for distant lights but it still shows up way too close IMO... Eric i9-12900k, RTX 5070ti OC, 32GB ddr5 5600 RAM, 2TB 980 Pro SSD, Titan 240RX AIO, Samsung CRG90 49", Win 11

Slewed up and had a look around. the orange glow dissipates as you get closer. As you pull away from the area, the orange glow returns. I wish Asobo would sort that out as it looks horrible. And to be clear, I am not speaking of the light pollution which is very nice. I'm referring to what you see when up above and looking down. I think the snow makes it look much worse. January 22, 20233 yr I agree with you, there is still a lot of work to do for the night between the sepia filter and the stars, it's average... We should vote on the forum...
