February 3, 20233 yr So today I decided to give HDR a try in P3Dv5.3. Not talking about the HDR toggle in the sim. And quite honestly I am blown away. So here are the details What you need : 1)Windows 11 2)HDR capable display (atleast 800 nits). Preferably a QLED/OLED 3)HDR Calibration App ( https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/windows-hdr-calibration/9N7F2SM5D1LR ) Steps: So first turn on HDR in windows. Then launch the HDR Calibration app and start calibrating the display. It's actually very simple. In the last step, set your saturation to somewhere between 40 and 60. This is very important. Do not leave saturation to default value which is zero. Now launch P3D. When the startup screen comes up, you will see windows notification saying 'auto hdr' has been enabled for this game. (Surprisingly P3D supports the Auto HDR feature). Now load a flight and see the results. You will get all the goodies of HDR. Brighter whites, wider range of colours, visibly reduced banding at higher altitudes, more contrast and just an overall a huge increase in visual fidelity. February 6, 20233 yr Interesting ... I'll give that a try ... but I'm pretty sure that P3D doesn't support HDR textures/materials? But thanks for the link, I'll have to try that out on my OLED monitors.
February 6, 20233 yr Thanks. Looks nice. But maybe I need to adjust my settings a little bit. Regards Urmel
February 6, 20233 yr I suppose one needs a HDR monitor to actually see the results ? Because the screenshot above looks almost black&white to me. The sky is greyish with very minor blue tint, gound is grey and black, I do see some green-ish tint in the grass area on the left maybe... oh wait, there might be a few colored pixels in the AI planes on the right.. Of course I do understand that with HDR-compatible hardware/monitors, the screenshot does look better than that. But on a normal/old-school monitor, man does it look sad 🙂
February 6, 20233 yr same settings in Malta: 0.05 more Saturation in Malta: The difference is the location. Frankfurt with the hugh Apron and no Vegetation will be not so colourful.
