C172 panel instruments - no night lighting?

Featured Replies

during night flying, you typically reduce lights in the cockpit to a minimum. in the analog C172 you would adjust lights by turning the rheostat knobs or the LEDs under the glareshield but that doesn't do much for me in the default C172, it is totally flat even turned up all the way. I don't want to use the overhead flood or red flash lights. what am I missing? since under no circumstances do we want to compare x-plane to MSFS pictures, therefore real world pictures have to suffice to illustrate the case, this or similar is how I would hope to see it in x-plane, is that possible? (please no suggestions like: use this tool or that airplane maker or some other thingamjig)

x-plane 12, default C172, panel lights turned up all the way

this is how it looks in my 10 year old Carenado C340 for xplane 10/11, now in xplane 12. not perfect but much better.

Dirk, yes, much better than in my screenshots. ok I see, I might not have hit the rheostat at the exact position. got it now. thanks.

added bonus: now that my lights work I get an annoying stall horn sound while sitting on the ground, winds @ only 7-10 kt. at S31 Lopez Island, real world weather 😀

Turbomax - that can happen in a real aeroplane but generally at much higher or gusty wind conditions, so interesting that they have modelled airflow that well, Depends on the gusts and angle they hit the stall warning vane, it is after all only a little bit of loose fitting tin with a switch,

epends on the gusts and angle they hit the stall warning vane,

yes, I  am familiar with that effect from my real world airplane and how you can manually test it by blowing slightly into the stall horn slot, but not that obtrusive and annoying at a mere 7 kt wind on the ground, that's why I mentioned it. more real than reality. 😀
