September 21, 200718 yr Greetings:Does anyone know of an add-on that would create train traffic in FSX?When I fly over familiar territory in VFR, I've looked for trains, but haven't seen them. Searches of FSX forums never return any results for "trains."I like the boats, cars, trucks and even birds, but buzzing trains in the ultralight would be a hoot!-zelmo-
September 21, 200718 yr I don't know of any add-ons for that.If I remember correctly, when FSX was being developed, moving trains was one thing they were looking at putting in the sim--probably in the traffic system like boats are. I think the idea hit the cutting room floor at some point though.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
September 21, 200718 yr If you were willing to take the performance cost, it could be done as an add-on easily enough. Take some 3d train models, create them as simobjects through simconnect, and move them along predefined tracks. It could work. Better yet, wait for Train Sim to come out. I was pushing around the idea of interoperability between the two, assuming that SimConnect plays nice.
September 21, 200718 yr There's this file in the Avsim library:photorails2.zipI have it installed in FS9 and it looks great. The trains are static but they look very realistic. I haven't tested it in FSX though.Jim
September 22, 200718 yr Author I think it's called MSTS WOR. See taildragger's blog. ISTM whatever needs to be added to the engine for MSTS could be merged into FSX or FSXI. scott s..
