Orbx help

Featured Replies

Tonight I installed Orbx scenery for Eagle County (Vail) (KEGE). The install went fine and the airport shows nicely in the sim but every time I start the sim it asks me to activate the scenery. Why is that happening? No other Orbx scenery ask me to activate it at start up every time. How can I stop it from happening? I want the scenery active and not have to activate it every time at start up.

That usually means the sim found the scenery's xml file in the Prepar3D Add-on Files folder but there is no corresponding entry in either of the two add-ons.cfg files.

The entry is written by the sim (not the installer) when the sim closes--if P3D is not completing an orderly program shutdown the file may not be written out with the new entry.

I have had problems for years with P3D doing a silent crash at shutdown when the shutdown is done at an Orbx add-on airport.  You can check to see if that's happening by looking in the Windows event log for red trouble triangles flagging abnormal terminations of P3D.  A normal termination won't cause entries in the events log.

If you're shutting down at KEGE or another Orbx add-on field, try opening the sim at a default field somewhere, activate the Orbx scenery, then shut P3D down.  You should also have your default flight set up with a default aircraft on a default airfield rather than starting with add-ons so that the default environment variables are all properly initialized during startup.  You don't have to start the flight there--P3D loads the default flight before it shows the scenario editor where you can select your startup particulars (location, time, acft etc).

I think this is where my problem is. I installed the scenery, then activated it but instead of shutting down P3D I went right to the scenery and had a look around. I will try again later on tonight. I will install the scenery, activate it, then shut down P3D. Hopefully after I do that the sim will not ask me to activate the scenery every time I start the sim. I will let you know if it works.

I moved some 400GB of ORBX to a new 2TB Samsung PRO NVME when starting P3D I had to activate them in P3D as it sees them as a new addon. If you still have a problem un-install in ORBX Central, then re-install and verify files.

I’m glad it wasn’t just my imagination. Same here. It must be something about the way they design their scenery that causes it.

Any other ideas? I tried reinstalling the scenery and it still is asking me to activate the scenery every time I start P3D. I started the sim at a default airport, then activated the Orbx scenery from there but the sim is still asking me to activate the scenery. I started P3D 4 times since then and I was asked to activate the scenery each time.

I am not sure I want to keep the scenery installed if it is going to keep asking me to activate it every time I start the sim.

Un-install in ORBX Central then re-install verify files, reboot the PC then start P3D active the airport when asked. at the setup flight screen go into options scenery check that KEGE has a tick in the active box.

Thank you so very much!! Uninstalling Orbx Central then reinstalling it did the trick. The Egele County scenery now stays active and P3D does NOT ask me to activate it every time I start the sim. I will remember this if it happens again.
