Well, its out, I just saw it, and maybe I’m not critical enough, but I loved it! Its like finally seeing the depth and scope of a Babylon 5 that the budget never allowed us to ever do anything but Imagine before, and it was great!

Also great revisiting that universe and spending time with old friends.

Just kind of sad that none of my friends are sci-fi fans or probably even know what a Babylon whatsis is. Seems my viewing will be a singular pleasure.

I attended high school with J. Michael Straczynski. I didn’t really know him at the time, (he was a year ahead of me), but I have been a long time fan of B5.

For several years I participated in JMS's Usegroup (remember those?). He frequently ran by some of his proposed scenarios and solicited the group's suggestions and opinions. JMS was unique amongst sci-fi writers because he essentially planned in great detail the entire five-year B5 story arc long before actually writing the scripts.

Yep, I remember and participated the B5 Usenet group.  I messaged JMS a few times, and mentioned our shared high school experience. He wrote a novel in the 80’s called “Othersyde” and he told me to read it, as the protagonist was a high school student, and several characters in the story were based on real people he was sure I’d recognize. He was right!

He said that two teachers at the school had a tremendous influence on his later career: Bill Virchis, who taught theater arts, and JoAnn Massey who taught creative writing. He had kept in touch with Virchis over the years, but he asked if I knew whatever became of Mrs.Massey as he wanted to contact her but she had apparently moved to Texas at some point. I don’t know if he ever found her.

Now give me a version with human actors.  😞 Not sure what they are playing at, it would be VERY successful.

While they are at it I'll have a new Firefly too.

Is this a one off animated movie, or a potential pilot of a new TV series?

Both or either. There is talk of a new series, possibly riffing off the changes to the timeline/multiverse seen in this animation.
