October 11, 20232 yr Last night I had the most surprising event happening with my P3dv5.4 install... After having used it extensively the night before, with a vey enjoyable takeoff performance test with the FSLabs A320, last night I turned the PC on, Win 11 was up & fine... Then I started P3D the usual progress bar appeared for a while, then a pitch dark screen and NADA ! Repeated a few times, rebooted . NADA ! Tried with P3dv6, just in case... All fine... Started disabling addons... still the same... Well, ended up doing a clean install, after having erased all of the installed aircraft & scenery, and this morning started v5 and it worked... I was impatient I know - should have carefully searched for the reasons in the system logs, but I wasn't up for digging into logs... Ther was a Win 11 update waiting - I start to believe this had something to do with it (???) P.S:: (MY BAD !!!! Should have used the SEARCH button... 😕 ) I now strongly believe the Win 11 update was the culprit... October 11, 20232 yr Author Just a short followup... at work some applications today suffered from a similar fate, and all apparently related to this last Win 10 / 11 update ... Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
October 12, 20232 yr Author Well, yesterday purchased Vector, installed, gave it a ride, but then after two sessions decided to start installing my addons in v5. After installing the PMDG 777, as I started the sim I was back to that black screen 😞 Deleting Generated files first and then repairing the sim install worked, but I uninstalled Orbx Central because the Global, LC Europe, Vector, LPPR were showing as installed (Library install) but not listed in p3dv5 scenery Library and OFC not present when I loaded the sim 😞 Really weird .... Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
October 12, 20232 yr Author And... The culprit was RAAS pro, installed by PMDG 777 which had never been installed after orbx Open LC or Vector, products that I didn't own before not even before MKStudios LPPT and LPPR, the only two payware airport sceneries I have. I should have been more attentive to the sequence that lead to the black screen event ... It turns out that it was related to the PMDG 777 install. Disabling RAAS in the XML solved the problem 😁 Edited October 12, 20232 yr by jcomm Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
October 12, 20232 yr What a great thread @jcomm, well done.👍 I'm not being smart I mean it. 4 posts over a day and a half and not one question ! Managed to sort it out himself and took the time to let us know the culprit, pity more don't do the same. Poor auld MS being blamed in the wrong, well at least this time........😁😁
October 12, 20232 yr Author @Sparkrite, thanks for the kind words ! Even if this was all due to not correctly trying to isolate the origin of the problem, causing meto reinstall P3Dv5 twice, at least it served as a good opportunity to learn some aspects of Orbx Central and to make a backup of it's backup folder to an external disk, tomake it even faster if I ever have to reinstall 🙂 The A2As and the FSLabs 319/20/21 will follow tonight, then FSHUD, and I'll be back to where I was two days ago 🙂 Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

So easy to backup/restore all my settings.

Can't agree enough--the one-click backup tool in the Lorby P3D Addon Organizer saves a snapshot of the most important config files, especially related to scenery and terrain. Issues like the one in the OP are almost always solved by restoring the last working backup snapshot. Really easy...has pulled my bacon out of the fire a bunch of times. October 12, 20232 yr Author Ah ! Have to check that one then -Lorby - but, can it install Orbx products circumventing Orbx Central, or do they still have to get installed through it and then from there on managed through Lorby? I've read a few times about an alternative P3D method of installing addons using the so called "xml method" but I didn't yet find the time to go search for it. Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
October 12, 20232 yr Central doesn't use any type of 'magic' when installing addons, but you have to use it to purchase /install the software initially. Thereafter use Lorby to maintain/move/add/delete/order/manipulate (or whatever other adjective you can think of) your addons/scenery library. XML method has been the way to add 'addons' for quite some time now and is quite easy to get to grips with and IMHO allows for greater and easier management of same. Especially if you have multiple versions of P3D installed.
