AutoOrtho 0.7.0 Released

Recommended Posts

Happened to notice that an updated version of AutoOrtho has been released. Changes in 0.7.0 are listed as:

  • Show logs in config UI. Adjust how we kick off execution by @kubilus1 in #398
  • Fix 'duplicate' best chunk tile matches by @kubilus1 in #409
  • Only validate existing sceneries when necessary by @kubilus1 in #411

I haven't had a chance to update my installation to try it out yet.

I've installed the 0.7.0 update (I was running 0.6.0-1 prior) and things seem to be working well. A couple of changes to be aware of that might startle or confuse users of earlier versions:

The command line window that opened and showed the logs for AutoOrtho is gone in this version. There's now a "LOG" tab in the GUI interface and all of the AO log messages go there instead.

The other big change is that when you click the "Run" button on AO, the GUI will minimize so at first glance you might think it has crashed.

Here's hoping that this will clear up (or at least reduce) the duplicated tiles issue that I was periodically experiencing with 0.6.0.

Very slow download speed...................might be heavy demand on their servers?

I am looking forward to getting v 0.7.0 operating.

Do I just run the new 7.0 exe? Will it ask me to redownload all the sceneries again?

Nope. v0.7.0 uses the same scenery as all versions since v0.5.1-3.

Note: I had poor results on my rig with v0.7.0. Then tried one of the recommended mods to the config file and it improved the visuals.

prefer_winfsp = True

Prior to the change I was just getting plane vanilla tiles.

While Autoortho often delivers impressive results...

...I found that it tends to sometimes crash XP when loading a new tile. Turning off threading apparently helps, but at the cost of risking holes in the terrain and other artifacts due to slower tile loading.

Additionally, when used with X-World in areas with sparse forestry data, there are now gaps in the tree cover (which would normally filled in with the underlying autogen by X-World).

For these reasons, I've ditched Autoortho for now. Good idea and good execution for what's possible with X-Plane though.

Nothing there that would help.

Any idea where does the config file sit? I have searched everywhere in my stupid puter
