RealityXP Nav Data

Recommended Posts

I am very disappointed with RealityXP using expired data bases. I will stop using it until they fix it.  Navigraph would be the perfect solution.

There are plenty of posts on this topic.

The reason is that the RXP uses the actual Garmin Trainer available to real owners to drive the RXP. You therefore get full functionality just as a real aircraft owner does.

The trade-off is that the databases used are Garmin's own databases, that are protected and cannot (or should not) be reverse engineered, even if you knew how.

Updating to the latest Trainer version will give you the most up to date database unless you know a real owner who might be able to "help" you.

There is no possibility of being updated via Navigraph.

The real issue is to approach Garmin and ask if they would support loading something like Navigraph in their trainer software for flight sim use only.

Flying and training with out-of-date NAV Data sets up a mindset that its ok to use out-of-date data which is a safety of flight issue.

The database in the trainer that powers RXP is exactly the same as the database in the real unit. It is in a proprietary format and encrypted. There is no way that Garmin would share the format with Navigraph. If they did, any database for “sim” use that Navigraph created could potentially be used in a real GTN/GNS.

It will never happen. It would be like asking Coca Cola to reveal the secret formula for Coke.

More like to ask them to be able to load existing 429 compatible navigraph database into Trainer only, no need to touch the realworld GTN/GNS.

But that still sounds like quite a lot work for nothing in their realword business benefit anyway.

As it is a Garmin Issue.  For those that actually have a Garmin DB Subscription, I'd recommend you write to Garmin and push them to allow us to tie the Trainer to our Subscription.  So then you'd have fully current databases.

Actually wondering now if I can copy any of my legitimate DBs into the Trainer...

Here is one post that explains how to do it:

I’m not sure if this is still valid for the current Trainer.

I just tried it and it doesn't appear to work.  I'll play with it a little more later to see if I can trick it by not moving all the files.

Also, the SD Card I tried was created for installing the DB into multiple units.  I may make one specific to the GTN and see if it makes a difference.  Sure would be nice though if Garmin would let people with current subscriptions use their DB in the Trainer.
