Parked static AI

Recommended Posts

From the release notes on 3.92

"If not enough options have been found it searches one half hour back in time, and so on, up till 47 half hours back in time (1 day). It may cross the boundary with the previous day of the week. It no longer searches over all days of the week."

Is it possible to have a way to still have this search the whole week? I don't like to use the park soft or learn soft option as I don't like having the wrong airlines parked at the wrong gates. I used to see plenty of parked static AI in the correct spots but ever since the new option of only checking 1 day back I hardly get any unless I use the park soft option, which of course shows several airlines at the wrong gates.

I would rather it search over the whole week to fill up spots with real options

thanks,

For most airports 1 day will do for percentages  up to 30.

Searching the whole week has drawbacks too. Seeing a Qatar A380,  that only visits an airport 3 days a week, at the wrong day kills the immersion too.

Furthermore, I am having a break now (in further development), and bringing back the live traffic performance has high priority at the moment.

On the consideration of immersion-breaking, both scenarios are true:

  • Landing at empty airports due to a lack of real airlines with parked spots by days, relying on soft days (T-1 day)
  • Seeing infrequent aircraft types more often (like on the wrong-day)

I think it comes down to what is considered more severe. Certainly, if airports are more populated, then case 2 is worse, but when landing at an airport that already has little historical data, and then being limited to only a day's worth, I'd argue that this would be worse.

Proposed mitigation: I wonder if an alternative would be to just keep the 47 half-hour behavior default, but give us the UX option to override the value to a larger count, just so that we could satisfy higher parked plane counts from history. If we don't need that data, we can obviously shrink it back down to the 47 or lower value; right now, we're just limited by the UI in terms of how it can be set.

More importantly: Nico, take your break first! You've pushed out so many updates over the past weeks, and you deserve time off! We'll be here when you get back, and I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say that we appreciate all of your efforts with improving and maintaining PSXT.

Agree, well deserved and important also from time to time.
