AI Planes limited with FSUIPC

Recommended Posts

To help performance, I have tried to limit AI planes  (AIG) by using FSUIPC. It works but I then have the annoying spectacle at airports of planes appearing and dis-appearing at random, often in the same position: hardly realistic.

Is there a solution?

In the FSUIPC for Advanced Users document, see the section on traffic limiter ini parameters--should be in one of the appendices of the document.  There's a parameter called Ground Preference that controls how much traffic gets deleted on the ground.

This is interesting. I have experienced the same as Ian but have not tried your suggestion Bob. I use ai companion but might give FSUIPC a try again with hopefully better success.

Ian, you don’t say what settings you use. On my old computer I set things up so nothing would happen until fps dropped below 28. When it did FSUIPC would delete Ai until that fps was achieved.

But I also set a minimum number of Ai. 60 I think so airports always had some Ai present.

What airport are you having problems with? Heathrow?

I wasn't using any settings in FSUIPC at first, then I started getting enormous fluctuations in FPS on approach to most airports (from 28/30 down to 1 to 3 for about 5 to 10 seconds), after I increased sliders in P3D for better effects.  I am still not sure if it is AI or scenery causing the problem, that is why I am trying limiting AI first.

I have tried playing with the setting Bob mentioned above and it does seem to have made a difference. It still needs testing at a very large airport, though.

Ian, what version of P3D are you running? If v5 what are your Affinity Mask settings?

Some airports like UK2000 Gatwick do show a big drop in fps briefly around 5 miles out. More to do with the design than Ai I think.

With your older CPU you do have to be realistic about how much Ai can be displayed. Deleting those furthest away has little impact on fps sadly. It's those closest to you that have the biggest impact.

It is 5.4.

AM settings are

 AffinityMask=255
P3DCoreAffinityMask=252
MainThreadScheduler=0
RenderThreadScheduler=2
FrameWorkerThreadScheduler=4

In line with what the "Master" suggested some time ago.

Hi Ian, you’re not using the first two VPs with that. It might be worth assigning one of them.

Try 253 for the P3DCore value.

It sounds like you are using the AIG utility which injects the traffic with a proper routing.

This cannot work properly with the FSUIPC traffic limiter, because almost as soon as FSUIPC deletes one, the injector re-injects it.

I did ask the developer to either avoid re-injecting deleted aircraft, or at least wait a while till it does. I don't know whether any such thing was implemented -- I stopped using it and only use the ready-made AI plans (i.e the complete set of BGLs).  The limiter works well then.
