P3D Default ATC/ATIS does not recognize ILS present

Featured Replies

Hi all.

So I'm using the default ATC for P3D V5, just mostly to get taxi instructions and then fly my own route, and to hear what other AI traffic are being told to do. Anyways, when I listen to the default ATIS, for some reason it is NOT recognizing ILS approaches for some runways. For example when I listen to the ATIS for CYVR (Vancouver Int). Runway 8L and R don't have an ILS approach with only 26L having an ILS approach on the ATIS. And if the Weather is set to IFR it will state "landing Runway 8L/R, ILS 26L". Normally I wouldn't care about this, but what ends up happening is that the AI will actually end up using the ILS for Runway 26L and then circle to Runway 8R. So it is also affecting AI landing patterns. I've checked the AFCAD's and it doesn't make any sense with them, as not only do I have functioning ILS approaches, they also are visible on the P3D map and can be used by my flights.

The addons of importance being used here are Ray Smith's sceneries (yes I converted them for the one's for FSX, but for CYVR I use Craig Scott's CYVR), and AIG traffic. Furthermore I did have Pro-ATC SR installed, but was not using it, and have uninstalled it using the uninstaller after the issue arose. Still no luck.

It sounds like the airport file (aka "ADE" or "AFCAD") has the runway designated unavailable for approaches.  Has nothing to do with the ILS--there's a flag for each runway that designates whether the runway is available for takeoffs, and another for landings on that runway.  If you open it with the ADE editor, you can check and/or change those settings and replace the ADE with the edited version.

I don't think that's it. I checked the ADE (I assume the settings are in Runway>properties under the "pattern" tab?). And it allows both Runways for Takeoffs and Landings.

The other reason why I don't think that's it is because if the weather is VFR, it allows landings on the opposite runways. So if the Weather is VFR it allows visual approaches for Runway 8L/R or 26R. Only in IFR conditions does it force an ILS approach to ONLY 26L, and then either circles to Runway 8R or lands directly on 26L.

It would be controlled by ADE's "Approach Mode" on the right top corner, then you go to "Lists-Approaches" to see if there is ILS or whatever else approach type is there.

While if you add ILS in ADE for the first time, it'll ask if you want create a "default" ILS approach to it, for add-ons, it's up to the devs, some came with none, some with the "default" type one, and some with complete approach set with correct waypoint and altitude constant, even including IAF trans, however likely outdated as it won't be update every 28 days.

Checked that, it has ILS approaches for both Runways in both directions. In both the default AND the addon scenery. What's even more interesting is that if I turn off the addon scenery in the scenery manager. The lack of ILS approaches on the ATIS for 8L/R still remains for the airport (but said ILS approaches are visible on the P3D Map).

From what I can take a guess at, either another scenery higher up the totem pole is interfering with this one (but to my knowledge AIG doesn't have airport files right?). Or the default ATC itself is bugged for some reason. If the latter is there any way to reset it without having to reinstall all of P3D,I have a number of addons such as PMDG and QW and AIG etc. That I don't want to have to go through all over again.

Sort of solved!

Rearranged CYVR sceneries to be first in priority on the scenery index but below AIG, and it fixed the issue. ILS's are up and running in the ATIS again!

EDIT: After further testing it appears that the RS sceneries are conflicting with each other. If CYVR has priority CYYZ looses a functioning ILS, if CYYZ takes priority CYVR looses a functioning ILS. I can't quite figure out why at the moment. It is an odd bug. Would anyone happen to have advice here?
